Well, here we are with another Christmas upon us. Time is the strangest thing I know of. While I miss my brother who embarked on his two year church mission this year, I also have to say that time is strangely flying. It seems only yesterday we were celebrating last Christmas. But I don't want to rant about time any more.
I got my first job this year! It was such a strange experience but after some prayer and thought I applied for a part-time position at a local Hallmark store and surprisingly, I was hired. I'm enjoying my time there, even though being a working girl has added a new dynamic to my life. If nothing else, it has provided me some money to take care of and be mindful of.
As for my blogging life, I participated in a Cinderella Week that was simply fantastic! (It introduced me to Mara: Daughter of the Nile. Which I now love.) I myself, while unknowingly walking into a nasty bout with bronchitis, tried to host a Star Wars Week. I think my Lord of the Rings Week was much more successful! :D Lastly, I started another blog. For anyone who's interested, you can click here. I'm actually having a lot of fun with it, and I'm looking forward to some projects I've concocted for the new year.
Aside from all of that, I really don't have anything more to say. Therefore, as I did last year, here are a few movies and books I discovered this year.
**Just because it's listed, doesn't mean I enjoyed it**
🎥 Movies Discovered in 2016 🎥
Fifth Avenue Girl (1939) | The Jungle Book (2016) | Captain America: Civil War | The Finest Hours | Blackbeard's Ghost (1968) | Finding Dory | Ivanhoe (1982) | The Shop Around the Corner (1940) | Alice Adams (1935) | That Night in Rio (1941) | The Gang's All Here (1943) | Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them | Moana
📚 Books Discovered in 2016 📚
Mara: Daughter of the Nile | The Secret Keepers | Ivanhoe | Once On This Island | Farewell To The Island | Return to the Island | Thrice the Branded Cat Hath Mew'd | Mother-Daughter Book Camp | Miss Fortune | Miss MatchI think I'm discovering, that I am VERY bad at finding new books to read. I will reread before I try and find a new favorite...hmmm.
And again, in keeping with my last blogging card, here is a little song that I thought was really cool!
Yours truly,
Cordy

MERRY CHRISTMAS, CORDY! I'm glad to hear the job is going well for you, and that you're enjoying it. It's nice to have some money coming in, isn't it? :)
ReplyDeleteI hope you had a Merry Christmas, Miss March!! :D Yes, the extra money has been nice.
DeleteMerry Christmas, Cordy!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you've had an exciting year. :) I hope 2017 is really wonderful for you! (Also, I loved both your Star Wars and LOTR weeks. :))
I read Mara for the first time this year, too! And goodness...it's now one of my ABSOLUTE favorites! Rarely is there a book that has such a perfect plot, characters, setting...and the writing! It's so beautiful. :)
Ooh! Did you enjoy the Once on the Island books? I think I remember you saying you liked Gloria Whelan's books, but hadn't yet read those ones.
What did you think of the Mother Daughter Book Club? And The Miss Match books? (I loved those, but am so disappointed with the cliff hanger. I wish a new book was coming out!!) (Who did you like better? Jack or David?)
If you ever want new-book recommendations, I'd be happy to suggest some. :)
Hope your holidays are marvelous!
Thanks, Natalie! How was your Christmas?
DeleteI'll wish you a Happy New Year as well!
Right? It's terrific! (And I found it in my stocking on Christmas day. :D)
I really did and there's a funny story with that. My mom happened to see the conversation we had about those books on my blog and she knew I liked the author. Well, she surprised me and bought them for me. I read them in three days. One each night. I thought they were awesome! Her descriptions are always perfect and her stories flow well. Thanks for the recommendation!
I was okay with it all, but I wasn't in total agreement. Haha. What about you? Okay, Miss Match...what is with that ending?? REAlly? For me, the story isn't finished yet!! Annnnd. . .well, I was kind of rooting for Jack. I don't feel like there was enough time given for me to start rooting for David. Do you know what I mean? The second book was all rather convenient with the whole break into a barb wire camp and all. (Rather unbelievable in my mind.) I liked Jack's influence on Allie. I thought he would have been perfect for her and she for him to be honest. (But her mother, oh. my. word. I still don't think I've forgiven that woman. I don't know if that was the author's flaw or what but I was so ticked at her in that second book and I don't think that relationship was properly addressed either. UGH!) So, after my rant, what did you think of the Miss Match books?
Do you have any in mind. I read recommendations on a whim so I don't know when I'll get to them, but I'm always open to them. :D Recommend away!
Indeed it was. Again, have a Happy New Year!!!
My Christmas was nice, thank you for asking! :) How about yours?
DeleteEek, really? That's an awesome Christmas gift. :D
Aww, that's such a cool surprise! I'm SO glad you liked them. :)
Do you mean you liked the MDBC books but weren't in total agreement with them? I agree. I LOVE them, but sometimes the girls' shenanigans can get out of hand....plus the romance is a bit much for girls not even out of high school. :P (But for the record, I LOVE Darcy and Jess.)
Well, I read somewhere the author of Miss Match was going to continue it, but real life got in the way. I don't know if she'll ever pick them back up, but I sure hope so. I WAS TOO. I loved Jack. Really loved him. I liked David a whole lot, but Jack and Allie just fit so much more. It's been awhile since I read the books, so the details are a bit fuzzy (I ordered them with some Christmas money, though, so I should be able to re-read them soon. :)) but I think I was frustrated with Allie's mother, too.
I can't remember the name of the woman that Jack is trying to find, but she was nice and all...I just still really want Allie and Jack to be together. :( Could maybe David and what's-her-name fall in love instead? That would be convenient. :P
Mmm, okay! Let me think....
Boston Jane trilogy by Jennifer L. Holm
Catrin in Wales by Mabel Esther Allan (it's an old one, so it may be hard to locate a copy)
Betsy Tacy series by Maud Hart Lovelace
Titantic: The Longest Night by Diane Hoh
Ella Enchanted and Fairest by Gail Carson Levine
I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith
Sorry if those are all ones you've read or heard of before! Those are just a few of my favorites that came to mind. :)
Happy 2017!
It was marvelous! :D Thanks for asking. Hehehe.
DeleteYes, I liked many aspects of the books and the books in general but I didn't agree with a few things. Okay, mostly the romance. It was rather strange at times considering their ages, like you said. But, I'm still in love with Darcy and Jess too. That's fine with me!! (I am a little bummed for Emma though, I feel like she was totally neglected in the last book and wasn't given an ending at all. :( Poor girl.)
She needs to do another book just for our peace of mind, don't you think? hahaha. Jack is a fantastic character! I wish I felt like the author would alter the story to let David and (I think it's Maggie) get together. I didn't like Maggie and Jack together. I liked Maggie as Maggie and Jack as Jack but not as a couple. But if you were to switch the couples, you would have it just about right in my mind. :D
I've heard of "Catrin in Wales" before and I've wanted to read it--it's just getting a copy that will be a task. Hmmm.
2017? What have we gotten ourselves into? ;D
I knooooow. Poor Emma. I feel really bad for her, especially after reading the book about the girls at summer camp. Emma and Stewart were so sweet....why does the author feel the need to ruin them? :(
DeleteYES. Just one last book would do to tie up all the loose ends... I totally agree. As you said, separately they're fine, but together Maggie and Jack just didn't fit. Maybe switching the couples is what the author intended to do? At least, I hope so. :)
It probably will be difficult. :/ I hope you can find it someday! It's really wonderful.
Heehee. :D
Merry Christmas, Cordy! It's been a lovely year knowing you and reading your wonderful blog :)
ReplyDeleteP.S. I love your header! It's so White Christmas-y :D
I hope you had a merry holiday, Fawnabelle!
