Couples Ships That I Would Sink | Lovely Blog Party

When did we start referring to couples as ships? I mean really, where on earth did that come from? And are we still doing that? Well, I'm here to tell you the ships that I would sink...because I always like a lively discussion. I'm taking aim at some potentially larger ships, and some smaller ships as well so make ready! ;) (I wonder if this means I'm a pirate...hmmm...)

Captain America and Peggy Carter
You can't change my mind. Don't even try.

Eowyn and Aragorn
There are only a few people that I've seen where this is even a ship. But if you read the books rather than go off the movies, this is NOT a ship. *facepalm* I feel like the movie builds it into more of a mutual thing than the one-sided situation it really is for a brief time. Besides, have you not heard of Eowyn and Faramir?! <3 <3 <3

Natasha and Bruce Banner
No, just don't. There's no chemistry, not a bit of it. It was a forced storyline and it shows.

Elizabeth Swan and Will Turner
I couldn't commit to them. I tried, but there wasn't ever a moment where their relationship was properly fleshed out for me. And I like Will to much to have him with someone like Elizabeth. (Who I ended up not liking.)

Ron and Hermione
Ron is winey and spineless throughout and Hermione is always solid, so why does she have to take the Ron hit? Because everyone wanted it?! NO! They don't match and it simply doesn't work.

Catherine and Heathcliff
This couple, in fact this whole book, MESSED UP!!! They are not a couple, they are a dramatic pair that coasts off lust rather than love. Just UGGGHHHH!!

Jane Fairfax and Frank Churchill
Oh really. This is just a shame. Jane knew better, and yet she waltzed right into this one.

Tauriel and Kili
I'm sorry, I did not like the addition of this random relationship in the Hobbit movies. I like Kili so nothing against him, but I do not like Tauriel. She's the wrong balance of female character in my mind. So naturally, I didn't like the relationship.

Laurie and Jo
I don't understand this ship, I never will. They don't match, that wouldn't have been fair to either of them. Again, you can't change my mind so...

Padme and Anakin
OH this whole situation, can hardly be called a relationship. It's an obsession that turned into a marriage that ended in tragedy that involved again, an alarming lack of chemistry.

Well, as a few ships are limping back into port, I'll call it a day, savvy?

Yours truly,
Cordy

P.S. This post is very oddly satisfying for a post with very little to it. Hahaha. I'm so confused but that was great fun. Hahaha. :D

P.P.S. For those that don't know, Hamlette is hosting a pirates blog party, right now! Be sure to check it out!

  1. I agreed with you on most of these couples, the ones I know anyway. But yes, Hermione deserves better than Ron. Also from that series, I just didn't like the pairing of Harry and Ginny, sorry, I just don't think they work as a couple but mostly I think Harry only likes Ginny because he loves that family and maybe he wants to belong to that family. He might as well have chosen Ron.

    Have a lovely day.

  2. SINK CPT AMERICA AND PEGGY. (Especially after her love interest in Agent Carter shows up? Aah!)
AND DOWN WITH HEATHCLIFF/CATHERINE! AND ESPECIALLY NATASHA AND BRUCE. (*gag*)

    ...
    Actually...all of these.

BLOW THEM TO A WATERY GRAVE AARR

  3. Captain America and Peggy Carter. Um, sorry what? Soulmates I say.

Eowyn and Aragorn. I don't think the movie showed it as two sided exactly, I don't know what they were going for (besides drama), him enjoying the attention? Him picking option two thinking Arwen was leaving Middle Earth (which also wasn't in the book from what I recall).

Natasha and Bruce Banner. Ugh!!!!! Totally agree.

Elizabeth Swan and Will Turner. I do like them.

Ron and Hermione. Sorry, I like them, I am disappointed Ron started being written worse than everyone else, almost like Rowling was influenced by the movie portrayal. And Hermione's rather a goody-two-shoes Mary Sue.

Catherine and Heathcliff. Well, I do think that was the point, to be a terrible ship? Or was their a point at all to that novel?

Jane Fairfax and Frank Churchill. Mm, I think they are fine.

Tauriel and Kili. I was disgusted at first, now I just find it hilarious, its just so ludicrous.

Laurie and Jo. Yeah, well, this is one of the "I will die for this ship."

Padme and Anakin. In the prequels is anything good about those movie period, nothing makes much sense? However, in Clone Wars, they are pretty cute.

  4. Aw I love Ron - he's not spineless, he's so brave!! He would do everything Harry does, the difference is Harry kind of has to, Ron does it all just because it's the right thing and never gets any credit. They have no chemistry in the films because Ron's dumbed down a lot, but I love them in the books!! (Jane is definitely too good for Frank though, I'll give you that one.)

  5. Cordy,

Aren’t captain America + Peggy such an uncomfortable couple? I don’t know what it is, they just make me cringe. And *SPOILERS* didn’t they kinda kill her children in endgame when he went back in time? Bye bye to that blonde agent whose name I cannot recall because she was boring. I also hate Elizabeth Swan. Man, do I hate that woman. It’s a shame really, because there are so many unique options for female characters in pirate stories because they get to break some historical rules. If that’s what the writers for the Caribbean movies think a “strong” female is like it’s a wonder any of them are married to real women.

Thanks for sharing your unpopular opinions most of my opinions fall into that category too so ‘tis refreshing to hear yours haha!

  6. Hermione and Ron are endgame. Ron wasn't whiny or boring either. He's an excellent person and loyal friend. The films did a terrible disservice to the character. And to put Hermione together with Harry would have been too obvious. They're too much alike and they would have gotten bored with one another.

  7. General comment here to those it may concern...because this is being brought up a few times...I agree about the terrible characterization (or I should say mischaracterization) of Ron in the movies. Total fail on that, couldn't agree with you more and what a pity for sure! However, I must confess, I don't like Ron as a character in general. He is whiny, spineless, and selfish to me. Yes, he has his moments but not nearly enough for my tastes or to show enough development I guess. At the same time, just because I don't ship Ron and Hermione doesn't mean I ship Harry and Hermione. I never have and I never will. That just does not work! So, that wasn't what I was saying. I hope that clears things up a little bit. I wasn't looking to sway opinions because I know people have their favorites and such I just wanted to clear up those two points. (Because I don't have a proper moment to respond to individual comments right now.)

    1. I’m sorry if I came off as a little strong in my comment. I really don’t care about Ron and Hermione as a couple, however as a longtime fan of the series (both books and movies) I hate seeing how badly Ron is treated by the fandom. He had his weaknesses, but to me he was the most relatable character as well. I come from a big family where I’ve never really know where I belong. And I’ve been the friend of the popular kid and it’s not a fun role. So I just see a lot of myself in Ron and that’s why I get defensive.

    2. I feel like JK Rowling didn't give Ron enough of a maturity arc in the books as the other two, I felt like because the later books were written when the movies were coming out, dumb petty Ron started showing up in the books, whereas the earlier books he wasn't like that. 7 was horrendous.

I think I was a first surprised by their pairing and then loved it. I think I do have the idealized version in my mind, where Ron is the mature version of his original self and Hermione is less bossy. Whereas with book Harry and Ginny, they are just perfect (except that Rowling rather unbelievably kept the trio intact rather than adding Ginny in).

  8. Haha, the gif and the whole sinking ships theme is hilarious. xD So funny, and you also make some great points. I tend to just "go along with the crowd" in a lot of accepted romances, but when I stop to think about it, some of them *are* a little lacking in chemistry and a solid foundation, ahem.

  9. This was hilarious to read, Cordy! Own being a pirate whether things are cannon or not. ;) Blast Jo and Laurie apart! I've never even considered them to be anything other than best friends. I tend to not like couples who started out as friends because I just love their friendship how it is, so I agree with disliking Ron and Hermione on that account. :) I did not like Kili and Tauriel, either. Why do you take perfectly nice story and throw some random romance in? I will not stand for it! Fire away and sink those ships!

Haha, I didn't mind Nat and Bruce but I'm probably the only person in the world who thinks that. XD I liked where everything ended up, though!

  10. STEVE & PEGGY THANK YOOOUUUUUUU

I just . . . no. Sure, part of my distaste is due to my distaste for Cap in general, but personal feelings aside, I really don't think he and Peggy make a good match. Peggy belongs with Daniel Sousa, world without end, amen. They're much better suited.
