Well, I was fiddling in Photoshop again a few days ago and a new blog look was born. Once I had created the header I had to find things to go with it. (Speaking of the header, I always liked this picture with the Black-Eyed Susans because it reminds me of Winnie the Pooh. Rather random don't you think? :)) Now, as it worked out beautifully the last time I posted about my new look, I'm going to use this post as a little personal update. And I'll probably do the same thing with other new blog looks. We'll see how it goes. *raising eyebrows skeptically* Please, don't sue me for false advertising, I suppose this idea isn't as colossal is it might have been presented. ;)
Recently I have felt something like this gif:
Fly.
No.
FLY.
NO.
Just fly!
NO. No and NO.
In other words--focusing has not been my strong suit as of late. I have had many things on my mind that all seemed to attack me at once. But no worries. The crisis has passed and Cordy, has survived. I won't mention my worries as they really aren't that bad now that they passed. :P Phew.
Now for a few other life 'things'.
- Editing. Pictures like these are very encouraging. It's an edited page from Charles Dickens' Great Expectations. Look at all the scribbled corrections! I must be doing something right because my pages are every bit as messy. ;) (NOT that I am the next Dickens!!!!! Hahaha!)
- Baseball season has started for my family. Both of my younger brothers are on their respective high-school teams according to their ages. Thus far not only have I been sunburned at a game but my mom and I have also been snowed on. Welcome to the oddity of baseball season! :D
- Speaking of my brother...he has convinced my sister and I to accompany him on yet another movie marathon run. This time, the marathon will include a combination of Captain America and Avengers movies ending with Captain America: Civil War. My brother is preparing to leave in a few month's time to serve a two year mission for our church so this will be some good hang out time for the three of us. So long as they stay awake through this marathon. Haha.
- March Madness--happened. Haha. My bracket is so very dead! It has been a strange Madness year to be sure. :/ But on the bright side, this commercial is hilarious! It captures my impatience perfectly!
- During the first week of March Madness I started a Middle Earth map puzzle. It's going to take some time... 0_0 But it's going to be so fun!
- Miss March, miracle of miracles! My mom took my sisters and I clothes shopping recently and I actually found a fantastic pair of funky pants. They are black and white paisley print but are made with a skirt-like fabric and look like a skirt if my legs are together because they are so comfortably baggy. They are a unique addition to my wardrobe and I love them so much! (My normal 'outfit' usually consists of jeans, a T-shirt, some lip gloss and mascara.) But, can you imagine? I had some luck while clothes shopping. ;D
- I have been crocheting. What you may ask...well... Leprosy bandages. When I was maybe ten, maybe younger, my grandma taught me how to crochet leprosy bandages for our church humanitarian services. Apparently, the bandages allowed for air to gain access to the wounds that come with leprosy. Since that time our church no longer requires the bandages but I still make them. They are three inches wide and either four or seven feet long. Feeling the thread through my fingers and the methodical movements of just the one stitch has a relaxing affect on me. And you know, it's always good to have some bandages on hand. :D (So long as you never have to use them!)
- I was giving our kitchen a much needed deep clean the other day and I had Barry Manilow playing. (I always switch between Rascal Flatts and Barry Manilow when I'm cleaning. Completely different artists but they both keep me occupied, in different ways. :)) It was strange as I listened to the tunes that I had 'grown up with' and a nostalgic feeling that came over me. Now nostalgia is an interesting word to me. I love the emotion, it's fascinating. You don't have to connect to a particular memory but you just feel the memories. It's lovely. However, even though I like the emotion, I don't like how it's spelled out and I don't like how you say it. (Even on the rare occasions where I actually pronounce it properly. :P). Simply put, it's just ugly. :P :P It sounds like an illness or impediment of some kind. It reminds me of lethargic and there is nothing romantic or fascinating about being lethargic. Anyway, back to my chore. Did you know that a mop pants. It's true. The cleaning solution that we use on our floor doesn't require a damp mop, you just squirt and mop. (No, it's not a Swiffer product.) It takes a little time for the mop to soak in the solution and in that time, the mop sounds like it's panting as it scrubs across the floor. Rosie McCann, I consider you an authority on good descriptions, ;) do you think a mop pants?
Gotta fly,
Cordy ;D

| Because brooms are so mainstream. :D |
P.S. Can anyone name the movie quote used in the title?

I love your new look! I still haven't figured out what kind of header I would want, so I don't have one. :) :/ But yours is lovely! It looks quite nice!
ReplyDeleteYour brother's going on a mission? Has he gotten his call yet, or is he awaiting it, or doesn't he have is papers in? Congratulations if he has his call, but it must be hard for you that he's leaving!
Congratulations on finding a pair of pants that you like! Seriously, I know how hard it is to find something satisfactory. I am super picky and also pretty small so it's hard to find clothes that work. So I'm happy for you! :)
Lovely post, Cordy!
Thank you very much, Rae. :) Don't worry, it took me some blog time to figure out my headers too.
DeleteNo he hasn't. Still just finishing the paperwork. And yes, it will be very hard. I have already had one sibling serve a mission but I don't think this kind of thing gets any easier. ;/
Oh, thank you! I don't call it picky, I would call it having taste! ;D Haha. Which the clothes these days have not!
Thanks again, Rae!
I haven't had any siblings serve missions yet; my oldest brother is still 17. But I've had several relatives, and one of my cousins is awaiting her call right now!
DeleteI know, clothes really don't have much taste these days...so for me when we shop for clothes I look every time and find something about every 5 times that I even like...I've taken to sewing my dresses and skirts because especially with those it's hard!
You sew your own dresses and skirts?! LUCKY! I have patterns with the hope of someday teaching myself the art of sewing...but that someday is rather far away in my mind. ;/ Haha.
DeleteYes...I taught myself to sew when I wanted to sew my own dresses for the Pioneer Trek. Since then I've made many more skirts and dresses, and right now I'm sewing my Prom dress, which is nice because it's so hard to find modest ones. I am really glad to be able to sew now, for it's very handy! Someday, Cordy, someday...Haha...
DeleteOooh! What is your prom dress like?
DeleteIt's orchid purple...I will do a blog post with pictures after Prom; it's kind of hard to describe!
DeleteSo as you asked about my prom dress, here's the blog post: http://raesdropofgoldensun.blogspot.com/2016/04/my-ballgown-k-prom-dress.html
DeleteI decided to comment with it because I don't know if you follow my blog and would have seen it...
This was delightful, dear!
ReplyDeleteI am totally with you on those worry attacks. It's awful while it lasts, and you wonder how you can possibly go on, but it doesn't last forever. I'm glad you are doing better.
That picture of the girl with dress was so sweet! That's wonderful you found something you liked--shopping for clothes can be SO frustrating sometimes. Like when you pick out a bunch of really nice stuff, go to the dressing rooms (or whatever they're called:)) and then EVERYTHING you try on has some problem with it!!
I love your new look! And Happy Easter, Cordy!:)
~Rilla Blythe
Yay! Thanks!
DeleteMe too! Haha.
I just want her hair! It's so casual but cute! *read this next bit in monotone exhaustion* Exactly! It's like the clothes, the few that you actually like, are so nice while out on the floor and then you try it on and they go: I don't like you, let me show you the ways! :P Haha! It's terrible.
Thanks! Happy Easter to you, Rilla!!
~Cordy
Lovely post, Cordy! I love the new look muchly :) (The Susans do look like Winnie-the-Pooh, somehow!)
ReplyDeleteOh, isn't it wonderful when you have success while shopping? It so rarely happens to me; I'm glad you can relate (not that I'm glad you have the same bad luck, but--shutting up).
Even though *whispers* I don't really care that much about Marvel, I think Civil War will make me sad :'( So I'm not sure if I'm going to watch it…anywho, I hope you and your brother and sister have a great time! Prayers for his trip <3
Yes! Olivia approves muchly, all is well with the world. ;D
DeleteNo need to shut up here, I totally understand!! Haha. And yes, success is a wonderful thing to achieve while clothes shopping.
*whispering back to you* I have the same feeling. I have only watched selective Marvel movies because of said brother. *voice rises in concern* And I'm worried about Civil War too!!
Thank you for your comment and prayers, Olivia.
Cordy, you shouldn't change your blog look so soon. Now mine feels old and outdated! Haha! ;) Joking aside, I LOVE your new header! It's GORGEOUS! It's just...just...WOW! That's all. And yes, now that you mention it, it does remind me of Winnie the Pooh! Awww. And you have a picture of Winnie the Pooh on your side bar! That's darling. :) Oh, and I just have to say, I REALLY like the quote on your side bar about writing fiction. Also the one about being in a dark place. Both great quotes. I never heard them before. Anyway, all that to say I LIKE your new look! Very much. :D
ReplyDeleteHaha! Colossal or not, I think it's an excellent idea to combine the announcement of a blog change with a little update on your life. I enjoyed this post immensely!
Aww, Cordy. I'm sorry to hear you've been going through a bit of a crisis. I had one of those this past week myself--worrying about stuff, I mean, and feeling kind of down in the dumps. But I'm really glad to hear you've survived it. Keep jolly, my friend. :D (Is that something Tom Shaw says...I can't quite remember, but for some reason it sounds like him.)
Oh, oh! THANK YOU for that picture of Dickens' writing! That really puts things into perspective when you see that even Dickens made mistakes in his writing. :)
A movie marathon? Sounds fun! How many hours straight is that going to be? I'm glad you'll have this time with your brother before he leaves. Is he going to be gone for a full two years without you seeing him at all, or will he be home for visits now and then? Two whole years would be a long time not to see each other.
Oooh! I like that Norman Rockwell picture!! His paintings are so cool! :D
You did WHAT?!! Wow, Cordy! That's amazing. To actually go to a store and FIND something! Haha! ;) Your new pants sound really fun. Isn't is so nice to have something new to add to your wardrobe? :)
"You don't have to connect to a particular memory but you just FEEL the memories." Ahh! Yes. I know all about that. I fall into nostalgic moods quite often. And I agree, they're quite lovely. Haha! I'd never thought about that before, but you're right 'nostalgic' is a rather strange word. And it does sort of sound like 'lethargic'. "It sounds like an illness or impediment of some kind." Haha. Oh dear, Cordy. I may never see the word nostalgic the same way again. ;)
"Because brooms are so mainstream." Ha! Good one. As to knowing where the quote came from in your title, I'm afraid I don't. But please tell me. I'd like to know. :)
I'm glad you were feeling better after writing this post. It's amazing what a comfort writing can be at times. :) Have a wonderful evening, Cordy dear, and sorry if I prattled on too long. I'm afraid this is an extremely long comment. :/
~Miss March
What a fantastically long comment, Miss March! I loved it! Allow me to return it in kind.
DeleteThanks! *proud goofy grin* Oh, but I still really love your look! It’s so bright and spring-y. Aren’t those quotes just great?! I love finding good quotes…*whispering* Thank you, Pinterest.
Oh, I was just crazy worried about unknown situations and overthought situations and such, but once the crisis was averted and overcome I was like: Cordy, dearie, you’ve got to keep you confidence up! ;D I don’t remember! I’ll ‘count’ it anyway because I love Tom and ‘jolly’ does sound like a term he would use.
Very happy to have been of service.
I’m actually not sure, and I haven’t done the math to find out. It certainly isn’t as long as the Star Wars one that the three of us tackled in Dec. This one only includes five movies where SW was seven. No, it will be straight two years without visits, but not without contact. If internet is available, he will be able to email once a week and he will be able to call or Skype on Mother’s Day and Christmas. Agreed, it is a very long time. I have a sister that served her mission for 18 months so, my family has some ‘experience’ but I don’t think it will make things any easier when my brother’s call comes. Four of our missionaries were harmed in the attack in Brussels which is heartbreaking. I would be lying if I said that it wasn’t upsetting. HOWEVER, with prayers and faith, all will turn out well!!
My mom is a Norman Rockwell fan so I grew-up naturally loving his work.
HAHAHA!! I knew you would understand, Miss March! This bit of your comment had me legitimately, laughing out loud!
I will be ever so sorry if I ruined the word for you—but 'tis true! ;)
It’s from the animated movie “The Swan Princess”. It’s quite a funny movie by the way. If you get a chance, I'm sure it would give you a laugh.
You are always welcome to prattle here again if you ever feel so inclined because I have loved every bit of it!
~Cordy
Oh, that is such long time for your brother to be gone without any visits home! :( In cases like these I'm SO glad we have the internet. At least you can keep in touch with him that way. I heard about the missionaries who were harmed in the Brussels attack. That is so sad. But you're right, with prayers and faith all will turn out well! We must rely on God and remember that He sees the big picture and that He's never going to leave or forsake His children. I'll pray that your brother has a safe trip and that you don't miss him too awfully much. :)
DeleteOh, no. You didn't ruin the word for me. No worries. ;)
"The Swan Princess"! I've seen that movie! It's been ages, though, so I don't remember it very well. We used to watch it...and play it...when were little kids. :)
Aww. Thanks. Then maybe I will. ;)
~Miss March
Yes, faith and the internet! Haha, what great blessings they will be in the next two years. :D Thank you for your prayers, Miss March. They mean a lot to me. <3
DeleteOh, phew. I'm so glad.
You should totally re-watch it then! If you liked it ages ago, you would probably laugh harder now!! :D Play it? Did you and your siblings act it out? Haha.
~Cordy
Yes, we played a lot of games growing up and many of them were inspired by movies. I don't remember much about our Swan Princess games except (and this a very vague memory so I may have things a little confused) that my older brother was the villian and I was the creepy lady that goes along with him. There is such a person, right? I think her name was Sarah, maybe? Haha. Like I said, I really can't remember it very well. :P
DeleteHahaha! It sounds like fun to me! (So long as it wasn't required to preform before others like in the March home. :)) I don't really remember the creepy ladies name, I'm not sure she had one. But at least there is one. ;) Did your brother sing the song?
DeleteOh no! Never performing in front of other people. Perish the thought! Haha. ;) I think our games were mostly made up; probably didn't look a thing like the original story. :P As to the song, I can't remember it, but I'm fairly certain my brother didn't sing it. Leastways, I have hard time imagining him doing so! Haha! ;)
DeleteYour new look is so bright and cheerful and spring-y! I love it! :D
ReplyDeleteOh dear, I'm sorry for how hard things have been lately. :( But I'm very glad you're doing better now! And heehee, that gif is quite funny. :) What is it from?
The Charles Dickens photo is indeed encouraging. Editing...sigh. haha
Your middle earth map puzzle sounds so cool!
Really? I never found nostalgia an ugly word. But I understand what you mean. It's weird how I can dislike most ordinary words because of the memory or emotion they bring up! But then, there are some I like and I hardly know why. I've always liked the word "mug". I guess because it reminds me of a nice warm mug of hot chocolate and it just sounds so cozy and comforting to me! :D haha
I love the Mary Poppins gif at the end!
:D :D Thanks!
DeleteIt's from Disney's Bedknobs and Broomsticks. It's 'classic' Disney so, naturally, I love it!
Uh-oh, do I sense some editing troubles?! ;(
Ah, 'mug' is a good word, indeed. When I was reading your comment I thought of at least three different descriptions at once! I like words that can do that.
Me too. :D
Oh yes! I've seen that movie before, but it's been such a long time that I didn't recognize it. I remember thinking it a little..strange, but I'll have to try it again sometime and see. I do love old Disney movies. :)
DeleteWeeell, a little. :( I've hit a point where some plot reconstruction has had to occur, and I've had a little trouble writing out new scenes that help smooth the plot out. It's just a little more troublesome to do than skimming along, polishing up sentences-which is my favorite kind of editing. ;) Hopefully I'll get past these bumps in the road soon! haha
Oh, how cool! What were the descriptions you thought of? (if you don't mind sharing :))
It is rather strange come to think of it, haha. But I'm afraid I like it all the same. I'd call it imaginative. ;)
DeleteThat is always hard. They are the reason that I just don't like editing. All seems to be going fine and dandy, a little sentence adjustment here and there, until you hit that large snag in your story and you just want to *makes a face while thinking of a proper reaction* faint? Haha, yes, faint in irritation. Hahaha. :D I think it would be the first time a person fainted in irritation. ;) Well, I wish you luck in continuing to smooth things over!!
Haha, well now that I come to think of it, the other reference were rather criminal. Like stealing and then having your mug-shot taken...oh dear, Cordy. What were you thinking of?! How very scandalous! ;P
Imaginative works! :D
DeleteHahaha, exactly! I certainly puts a damper on the excitement of editing. :/ Thank you!
Hahahaha, don't worry. Besides the coziness of a mug of coffee, the word can also remind me of a "mugging" or someone being beat up...so you're not the only one with scandalous thoughts. ;)
Heehee :) YES!! I totally agree. A mop pants. It's official - and that is so clever! I never thought of it that way. Buuuuut it's true. And in case I forgot to tell you, I love your new blog look!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Rosie! I'm so glad you approve of the description as well as my blog look! :D It makes me so happy! Haha!
Delete
