A Few Little Things (And How I Married My Mr. Darcy)

What a title, right? Now, are you ready for a tale?

...

Yeah, I'm ready for that tale too. *sigh* But I must confess, the title is a tiny little bit deceiving. So I had a birthday not so long ago and you'll never guess so I'll tell you, I was gifted the ability to marry Mr. Darcy. Well, that is to say, I can marry him if you can overlook the fact that he's only a cardboard cut out that stands about two inches high and travels around a board of Pride and Prejudice locations. But really, why would you spoil the fun in considering those points? I ask you? So, yes, I received a game entitled "Pride and Prejudice The Game" where the point is literally to get married as fast as you can. You have the choice of playing as four couples: Jane and Bingley, Darcy and Lizzy, Charlotte and Mr. Collins, or Lydia and Wickham. So far I have won twice playing as Lizzy and Darcy. (In the game you play as both the lady and the gentleman of the couples involved.)

Sorry to disappoint you, though it was ever so much fun typing that teasing title out. But on for the purpose of this post. I have several things that I want to say, but I'll only highlight a few and hopefully, give you some idea of where I've been and what I'm trying to do in the blogging world.

First, the normal little updates on me:

The first picture is from a beach in Oregon and one of my
favorite beach pictures I've ever taken. The second picture
is from a beach in Maine not far from Booth Bay. The seagull
totally pulled off a photo bomb. And the last picture is also off
a beach in Oregon. I always have the ocean on my brain so
I'm sorry if you're sick of the ocean from my last header.

  • I saw Wonder Woman. I didn't think that I would but my sister and I did at random and I might do a post on it and I might not. I'm still deciding. In the meantime, you can know that I "liked it".
  • Went to our city rodeo that happens every year. (Though this year was the first time I ever went.) It was pretty fun but at the very end, there was a nasty swarm of flying ants that descended on us. The wind picked up eventually and therefore saved us. Hahaha.
  • Also saw Dunkirk and if you want to know more about that, Meredith just did a really fantastic post on the film here. And, it's spoiler free!! (Our comments aren't but the post is. ;))
  • As I mentioned above, I had a birthday and it was a marvelous day indeed!!
  • My Hallmark store is currently recovering from a remodel that took place. It meant many hours and a lot of more physical work. (I never thought I'd miss dusting but you know, I'm looking forward to having normal displays to upkeep rather than displays that have to be totally revamped.) Every part of the store was torn apart and I'm TIRED. But this only happens every five years I guess, so we're good for awhile. THANK GOODNESS!
  • Umm, we as a Hallmark store started selling Halloween stuff in July. Yeeeah, I'm not that pleased about it. I thought having to sell chickens that laid eggs was difficult but that's nothing to having to sell a cat (I hate cats), singing Halloween songs (I hate Halloween) to people starting in July is much worse. Thankfully quite a bit of our Christmas is already on its way in as well. I'm always ready for Christmas!!! :D I mean, it is the most wonderful time of the year.
  • My friend was in town for a visit to her family so she came over one night and we watched the new Beauty and the Beast. I still hadn't seen it and I'd promised her I'd watch it when we were able to get around to it. Pretty sure a post is coming on that sometime.
  • I've been shopping and I've acquired a couple cute shirts and I've made some fun new jewelry. (I say I "made" but in reality, Hobby Lobby has some fun items that makes jewelry making really easy and Cordy proof. ;))

A few other "news" things:
  • Who knew there was a new Little Women movie in the works? *Cordy raises her hand enthusiastically* I made this little collage of the cast but I don't like my work at all so just look at the cast and not at the photoshop work, please. Haha. You may also be interested to know that Michael Gambon is playing Mr. Laurence and Angela Lansbury is playing Great Aunt March. :) For other casting info, you can click here. Here's hoping they use the book as a guide and don't just rework the story for the modern age. *threatening scowl*
Thus far, I'm only really pleased with the casting of Jo. I know nothing of this
girl's acting ability but she "looks" promising. :)
  • Hamlette is hosting her annual Tolkien Blog Party so I hope you're all looking forward to that as much as I am!!
  • Last but not least, there is a hidden "ticket", if you will, in this post that will lead you to discover the title of my fairy tale work in progress. Good luck in your search! (By the way, congrats to Kerry who was the only one to guess the title of the book. I was seriously impressed!)
Some upcoming posts (maybe):
  • A post on Wonder Woman...(still trying to corral my thoughts on this one)
  • A post on Entwined (that one I'm a little more sure of because I've basically written it.)
  • Answers for my Disney Lyrics game (again, I've basically put that together as well so it'll be around.)
  • A Beauty and the Beast post of some kind because I want to share my thoughts on the movie so I'll stop having thoughts about it. (Does anyone else know what I mean? You'll have that post nagging at you until you write it? I have loads of those right now.)
  • A Fictional Favorites post (I haven't done one of these in forever and I miss them!)
Okay, I think I have sufficiently exposed my brain and life for one post. I hope you all enjoyed your summers!! Type to you when I can!!

Yours truly,
Cordy

P.S. I changed the location of my sidebar. I still don't know what I think of it...hmm.

  1. OH OH OH I WANT THAT GAME! I've seen it online and it looks seriously fun.

I LOVE those pictures and the header! Marvellous job!!

I knew about Little Women a leeetle bit. As in, I knew it was coming out and I saw a pic of the Laurie actor. Knowing more of the cast is exciting! (I suppose I could have looked it up. But I believe I was busy when I first saw something about it and then I forgot about it.) Michael Gambon comes as no surprise whatsoever, my best friend and I joke that he's in every period drama ever. And I believe I shall like Angela Lansbury as Aunt March! I rather approve. And YES, here's hoping. I don't know what you think of the already existing movie, but I wasn't very impressed with it AT ALL. Dearie me.
Based solely on those pictures, I think I approve of the cast so far...but I don't recognize a single one of those actors, and I'm also comparing the casting to the other one and I think I like this casting better looks-wise. We'll see, I suppose. :D

*Sighs* Why must you make things difficult for us poor people who aren't smart enough to do things like unscramble words and find "hidden tickets"? Or, rather, I should say "too lazy" instead of "not smart enough" if I'm being honest. I mean, I did go back and read your post again, looking...okay, maybe I'm just not smart enough. :D

    WAIT.
    I WENT BACK THROUGH AGAIN.
    AAAAAHHHHHH
I'm seriously impressed with Kerry, too, for unscrambling that. Goodness!!!

    Love this post!!!

    1. It is seriously fun!! We've taken to drawing for our characters though because, who wants to be Lydia and Wickham? :P

      Thanks, Rae!

I'm not overly impressed by the "accuracy" in the previous films made. Here's hoping that adding a few hours in length will help the cause. Haha. Ehh, I'm still deciding on most of the cast. Like you said, I don't know about them!

SEE?! Haha, you are smart enough! :D

      Thank you, Rae. :D

  2. Happy (late) Birthday!!! :D

I love the ocean, so I think your header is absolutely lovely. :D

A new Little Women version!!! *confetti* This is indeed exciting. And this new version is very intriguing, since the person who made Cranford will also be overseeing this. I'm not sure about the cast yet since they aren't in costume and such but I'm predisposed to like them. :) Except...one article says they're filming in Ireland?? I love Ireland, but....that's not where Little Women is supposed to be!!

(Also, will filmmakers EVER try their hand at some of the lesser known works of famous authors?? I'm mostly thinking of L.M. Montgomery but Louisa May Alcott certainly has many other stories JUST as good as Little Women! *pouts*)

    1. Yeah, but Ireland still has the 1800's feel to it that they need. You can't find that feel anywhere in America anymore.

    2. Natalie,

      Thanks! :)

Oh, good! What's not to love, right? (About the ocean that is, not my header. Hehehe.)

I'm excited at the idea but I'm still worried about any hits and making it for "modern" or "the next generation" viewer. There's a reason the story is a classic, it's timeless. There's no need to update it.

I'm rather with Erudessa on the Ireland point. I can't think of a place in America, besides a studio, where they could film the setting properly. Though I do understand your point. So long as they don't sound Irish (or British as they are involving some British actors), I'm going to letting them get away with Ireland. ;D

Right?! As for the Louisa May Alcott stories, would it really be so hard to give us a wonderful Old Fashioned Girl movie?!

    3. I still think Ireland won't have quite the same feel that New England America has....I feel as if they could find some rural areas to film in. But oh well. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. :D

YES. I want "An Old Fashioned Girl" movie, too!

  3. That game sounds so fun! Even if you DID totally throw me off with your post title. Happy belated birthday!

  4. Yay, I love news/tidbit posts!

That game sounds absolutely awesome! I love games and that one's theme is one of my favorite books, count me in!!! :)

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D

Photo boming seaguls, haha! :) My sisters and I used to photo bom people all. the. time. We couldn't help ourselves, and it wasn't that much we were usually smiling, not doing anything weird.

I am going to guess what your book is called, but I have been so busy I haven't had the time. I have got it all set up on my computer to make guessing easy! You mentioned Beauty and the Beast twice, is that your clue?

I haven't seen Wonder Woman yet, but apperantly my sister is her twin. Dunkirk I haven't seen yet either. So many movies to watch! YOU SAW BEAUTY AND THE BEAST!!!!!!!!!!!!! You will have to tell me what you think!!!!

A new Little Women!? Oh...... :) I can't wait (even if the cast isn't too exciting)!

    Talk to you later, Cordy!

    1. Thanks, Movie Critic.

Oh, really? Haha. My sisters and I try and keep a watch out so that we avoid any photo bombing. :)

It actually isn't the clue. There really is a "ticket" of sorts in the posts. Not everyone found it, so I might have to revisit my reveal to give another clue.

Well, congrats to your sister. Hehe, I think Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman) is quite pretty. Yes, I saw B&B and I hope, fingers crossed, to get a post done on it sometime. I have to many thoughts to enter them into a comment. :)

I know, I'm not amazed by the cast yet either. :/

  5. Where can I get that game!!!? Lol it sounds super fun and now I want it! XD

Also, yes! I have been fangirling about the new Little Women for like a month now at least! I adore the old one, and I doubt this new one will be better. But I'm still excited to see it! Especially with some actors I like, such as Michael Gambon. (Even though it does slightly bother me that they've cast Brits to play Americans. Only slightly. And it's probably just me.)

I wish I had time for a longer comment cuz I liked this post, but...I don't, so anyway.

    Happy Birthday (belated), Cordy!:)

    1. Um, it's listed on eBay and Amazon. Just search "Pride and Prejudice The Game". I don't know if there's another site to find it but you can always Google it as well. It's a ton of fun!

It's that odd? Why didn't they cast Americans? It is an American classic after all. :) (But I highly approve of Michael Gambon so I'm fine making an exception for his case.)

No worries. :D Thanks for the comment, Elanor!

  6. That title though. xD

Yay another person who wasn't blown away by Wonder Woman! I felt like such a grinch not enjoying it as much as everyone else did. (not to say that it was terrible, because it wasn't!) I'd love to read your review if you decide to write it.

Aww, thanks for mentioning my Dunkirk post! :)

A new Little Women movie, you say? That's interesting. Jo definitely looks promising but(at least from the picture) Laurie looks too old and serious. :P I've never seen a movie or play adaption that portrayed him to my total satisfaction. But maybe he'll be okay. xD What do you think?

Ooh, and I want to read your Beauty and the Beast post!

    1. Hehehe, I had such fun typing it out. :D

I am working on it and I did like it. I just know that to do my feelings justice I'll have to do a post on it.

I seriously enjoyed your post and I was happy to brag about it for you. :D :D

Same. I've never been totally satisfied with the movies that have been made. I like watching Peter Lawford as Laurie because they kept to Alcott's script a little more in that version. But all the same, they've yet to cover the story properly for me. And it's hard for me to judge the cast because I'm terrible at placing people in roles when I don't see them in their costumes and such.

Haha, I'll get to work on that too. :)

  7. Your new layout is awesome! Just beautiful. I've probably said this before, but you're so good at photography!! I love your ocean pictures.

The title of this post though! WHAT WERE YOU TRYING TO DO?!! GET ME ALL EXCITED FOR NOTHING?? Okay, so I had a feeling it was a trick title, but all the same...was that nice???

That board game sounds intriguing. I never heard of it before.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY AGAIN!! <3 <3

Ooh. Remodeling sounds like an awful lot of work. I'm glad for your sake that it doesn't happen very often. Get some rest now. You deserve it!

THEY'RE MAKING A NEW LITTLE WOMEN??!! I had no idea. I definitely want to see it when it comes out, though I guess I won't keep my fingers crossed that it will be entirely to my liking. (I'm so picky when it comes to a movie adaption of that book.) I'm not sure I really like the look of the cast at this point, but then they're not in costume...that might make a difference.

A HIDDEN TICKET?!! How am I supposed to find a hidden ticket?! Why do you have to be so mysterious about all of this? JUST TELL ME!!

Oh, wait! I just found it! Eeeee!!!! I feel so smart now. ;)

    1. Thanks, my friend. <3

Basically, yeah. That was the goal. Did you really? I wondered who would actually be tricked and who would be skeptical. :D

I don't think it's really made by a company, I believe a lady just had it made. Almost like a self-publish thing...but for games. Does that even happen?

      THANKS!!!

I did finally get some rest and most of our customers are used to the new layout now so, two thumbs up on that score.

No. We can't really hope they would actually make a really fantastic Little Women, now can we? Which of the movie versions are tolerable in your eyes? That is if you've even seen a tolerable version...

      :D :D

      ~Cordy

    2. Tolerable versions of Little Women? Well. We own both the 1949 and the 1994 films and I enjoy both of them at times, depending on my mood. (Though I must confess the last time I watched the '94 film I was cringing through most of it.) I guess there's things I like about both of them, but then things I really dislike as well. The '49 one doesn't frustrate me as much as the '94 one though. BECAUSE I KIND OF CAN'T STAND JO IN THE 1994 VERSION...OR PROFESSOR BHAER (and John Brooke is pretty awful too)...and yeah. You get the idea. :P So right. I guess you could say those two are tolerable because I enjoy watching them sometimes...but at the same time they're kind of not because...grrrr...I'm just not satisfied with either of them and someone could totally make a better one and WHY DON'T THEY JUST DO IT??!!!

      Ahem. Rant over. ;)

      Delete
    3. Rant accepted. :D
And I agree with you. I can sometimes relate to some of the emotions portrayed by the 1994 Jo but on the whole, coming off a love of the book, the movie lacks the...I'm searching for the word...charm, maybe? I think it just lacks the charm of the book. The feel is off. (I thought I was the only one that disliked John Brooke in this version. He's just NOT right! Hahahaha!)

Also, if June Allyson didn't star in the 1949 version I'm sure I wouldn't like it as much.

      Delete
    4. Yeah, I'd definitely say the feel is off in the 1994 version. (And don't worry! You certainly are NOT alone when it comes to disliking John Brooke's portrayal. Just ugh.)

Yeah, because June Allyson is just great!! (She may not be the perfect portrayal of Jo, but she's just so loveable. Can't help but like her. :))

  8. Hahahahahahahah!! So I've kinda disappeared from the blogging world, so this is the first post of yours that I've seen in a while. But it made me laugh, just the title, and I really needed to laugh.

WONDER WOMAN!!!! I have yet to watch it, but I think I'm really going to like it! Gal Gadot is amazing.

Dunkirk, I'll have to check that post out.

LITTLE WOMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!! I AM SOOOOOOOOOOOO EXCITED ABOUT THIS!!! Like Michael Gambon as Mr. Laurence is going to be SOOOOOOOO FANTASTIC!!!!!!!! AND Angela Landsbury AS AUNT MARCH!!!!!!!!!! AND IT'S A THREE EPISODE MINI SERIES!!!!!!! The only other person I know is John Brooke, and I haven't actually seen him act, I just know him as Prince Philip from Once Upon A Time. And there's actually both a movie and the mini series coming out next year. I think the movie(Lea Thompson as Marmee, Michael Flynn as Mr. Laurence) might be modern though.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST!!! It's coming to Netflix the middle of this month and I am SOOOOOOOO excited!! Also...I HAVE CINDERELLA ON DVD NOW!!!! But I haven't watched it!

Have you had the chance to watch Wonder Woman yet? I'm still trying to get a post together for it.

I hope I like it because Little Women is one of my favorites!!!!

Did you see Beauty and the Beast? If so, what did you think? Wait, HAVE YOU NEVER SEEN THE NEW CINDERELLA???!!!! O_O
