The Fantastical and Felicitous Fictional Character Blog Tag

Alright, this is an old tag I found in my drafts and decided to polish it off because the hard work of answering the questions was already completed so why not. I don't know why I didn't just hit publish at the time but so it goes. The answers are relevant enough so here goes nothin'. Oh, but first, thank you Hamlette for the tag! (That came a long time ago in a galaxy far far away...)

Alright, here are the rules to the tag:
  1. Answer every question honestly. (...duh.)
  2. Use as many gifs and images as possible.
  3. Incorporate at least one YouTube video with a favorite scene of a character.
  4. NO VAGUE ANSWERS ALLOWED. Explain why you chose that favorite character to fit that description. I love details, my friends.
  5. If you can’t choose just one, that’s okay – give us a few answers and geek out if that’s what it takes.
  6. Tag at least 3 people.
  7. Use fictional characters from any fictional story.
  8. If you get nominated and/or decide to participate in this tag, please put a link back to this original post in your post and credit yours truly as the creator.
  9. Have fun and obsess over fictional characters!
I shall try to follow the rules and I'll try not to use duplicate stories in my answers. (But I can't promise you anything. ;)) Also, there are going to be spoilers throughout, just to warn you.

Goody-two-shoes: A character who was just so morally good
Uh, I hesitate because of the "goody-two-shoes" bit, but for a character that is morally good, I'd go with Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird. Is anyone with me? I don't know how to elaborate, so I'm not trying to be vague here but really, I think Atticus fits the bill.

Heartbreaker: A character who made you cry

IS it bad that I could name several? I'm trying to define "cry". There are happy tears and sad tears and tears of frustration and so on and so on. I'm just deciding what I want to go for here. Hmmm, I suppose this will have to be Faramir, from the Lord of the Rings. To not have the love of a parent and to know that you are literally only second-best, if that, in your father's eyes is just--heartbreaking!

Parrot: A character who won’t stop talking

C-3PO. The droid really gets on my nerves, my friends. I mean honestly. SHUT-UP!!! PLEASE!! I've realized within the last few years that C-3PO really drives me up the wall. I suppose I'm simply partial to R2 units. ;)

Devilish: Your favorite villain

Here's another question that could go so many ways. Alright, this one isn't a favorite, favorite, but I'll go with Chauvelin from the Scarlet Pimpernel. There's something hilariously satisfying about watching him be outwitted again and again. Good stuff! (This is kind of a weak answer because there are many better villains but right now I'm in the mood to enjoy seeing villains be outwitted.) And this answer just makes me wish even more that there was a movie version that stuck to the book!!

Love interest: A character who, if alive in reality, you would want to marry
Oh boy. This is always the hardest question for me, with any of these tags, because all logic kicks in and I'm going, "no I like them with the people they end up with". So I'll apologize here before I give my answer because these are hard for me...I'll come back to this one. I've almost filled out all the other answers and I'm still waiting on this one. It's like my brain is frozen in the "loading" stage. And the funny thing is, you'd think I'd stay consistent and just start using the same answers for this sort of thing, make things easy on myself, but nooooo...I'm an overthinker. I can't just stick with the same answer because I've changed since the last time I answered it. Silly girl. Alright, I don't know whether I've ever answered with this choice before but I think I'd go with Faramir. He has an understanding heart that I could see myself falling in love with. :)

Sidekick: A character who was always loyal no matter what

SAMWISE GAMGEE. There is no other answer that fits this category as well. I honestly challenge you to find one. But really, don't bother because there isn't one. Sam was always loyal!! <3

Complicated: A character you love and hate
Well, well, well, I did like going over this one, I'm not going to lie. And I think I finally settled on Brian de Bois-Guilbert, from Ivanhoe. His interactions with Rebecca and the influences she has over him. The change it works on him. I can't help still finding him incredibly frustrating and outright wrong, while at the same time, knowing that he is somewhat a result of the times. I don't know, he's just--complicated. ;)

Oddity: A character who was strange, but you loved them that way

Uh, currently, that would be Doc from Back to the Future. I only recently watched these movies and they're pretty fun but I think I like them as much as I do because of Marty and the Doc. Well, mostly Doc. :D He's the best!

Queen/King: A female/male character who you admire and aspire to emulate

After much thought, that clearly didn't do much for me, I've come to the conclusion that I am stumped. I've been trying to work this one out and I just don't think I'm the type that is looking to emulate fictional characters. Love them for who they are, yes, relate to them, yes, but emulate, I couldn't get there today for whatever reason. Perhaps the closest I could get to this answer would be Jane Eyre because of her quiet unassuming strength. She isn't in your face about anything but she knows her own mind and she exerts herself to be true to herself no matter how she is treated by others. Her even temperament without being weak is something that I'm trying to have.

Savior: A character who oddly reminds you of Christ

ARAGORN! I know Tolkien didn't intend his trilogy to reflect a Christian allegory but I can't help but see Aragorn as a Christ figure for the narrative. He always has and always will for me. He's the returning king! (Among many other things. :))

Oh, look! You've made it to the end of this long rambling post. So uh, so much for trying not to duplicate stories. Clearly Cordy has some favorites that heavily influenced this post. But maybe you didn't notice. ;) Haha. Oh well. And I didn't follow all the rules but I did the best I could. Well, have a wonderful May my friends!! Enjoy the weather you're having be it good or bad for there are activities for both, and I will type to you later. :)

Yours truly,
Cordy

P.S. I'm putting one of my games together and if you have the time, would you name three of your favorite fictional places, three favorite fictional males, and three favorite fictional females, please? Again, only if you have the time. Thanks!

  1. Very fun post, Cordy! I love your answers. I do get what you're saying about Atticus Finch, he is such a good character.
There is a black and white version of The Scarlet Pimpernel, which I think goes closer to the book than the 1982 version... I think! A friend told me that the 1982 is closer to El Dorado another book in the Scarlet Pimpernel series.
I don't think I have 3 favorite fictional places... but as to the others; Garcia Flynn from Timeless, Jack Kelly from Newsies and Amir from The Brave... Kit from The Witch of Blackbird Pond, Miriam from Calico Captive and Minnie from Lark Rise To Candleford. These aren't exactly my favorites, but I do love them!

    1. Thank you, Grace. :)

I'm so glad you understood. I had such a hard time trying to spell it out that I gave up with Atticus. (I really did the same with Sam too.)

Indeed, the black and white is slightly closer to the book but still didn't quite satisfy me because I suppose I am a very picky viewer indeed. And yes, it is closer to El Dorado. I suppose I am just slightly "disappointing" (I use that word lightly because I still enjoy the movie), because I liked the casting in the '82 one so I wanted to see them do the book ending.

Thanks for your answers! It's hard to choose our very, very favorites, but we can choose just some out of the bunch sometimes. ;)

  2. When I did this I used Atticus, too, because he is the best! C-3PO is the perfect answer to the parrot question! XD Doc Brown fits so well, too. I finally saw the third movie this year and he and Marty are the greatest parts of those movies!

Narnia, Neverland, and Wonderland. Atticus Finch ;), Colonel Brandon, and Bilbo Baggins. Margaret Hale (North and South), Anne Shirley, and Luna Lovegood. I had to just name the first three of each that came into my head or else I would have been here all day. ;)

    1. You know "Back to the Future"?! Yay!! (Well of course you do, you are MovieCritic after all. ;)) I thought they were fun movies and I loved Marty and Doc.

OH lovely choices on all of the above. Thank you very much!

  3. This was very fun to read! I almost want to do this tag myself, but then I hesitate...because some of these questions are rather tough and you know me. I am totally an over thinker and so this might just be a little too much for my brain to handle. ;)

As to three favorite fictional places...hmm...let's go with Hobbiton, Green Gables, and oh dear...I'm drawing a blank on the third. I feel like there should be another place, but I really can't think of it right now, so I do hope it's all right for me to just go with two.

Three favorite fictional males: Mr. Knightly, Gilbert Blythe, and Mr. Bingley (from the '95 version of course! And not to forget Mr. Darcy, but I just thought I'd pick Mr. Bingley for the sake of being a bit different, and 'cause I do really like him, too.)

Three favorite fictional females: Jane Eyre, Meg March, and Jane Bennett.

I feel like all these answers are so unoriginal and uncreative but I'm afraid that's the best I can do at this hour in the morning. :).

Thanks for a fun post, Cordy, and I'm quite curious to know what sort of game you're putting together.

    1. Hello, my friend. <3 Hahaha, I'm just glad it was already filled out when I found it. It made hitting the publish button very easy. Out of curiosity, which question would you find the hardest? (I'm trying to see you name a favorite villain...)

Two is better than none, so yes, it's perfectly alright. :)

Thank you for choosing Bingley, he appreciates the originality. (And I honestly do believe that you would prefer a Bingley over a Darcy, wouldn't you say? Or no?)

      Excellent female choices. :D

Favorites are favorites, they are not unoriginal or uncreative, they are the best of the best to you. Nothing wrong about that in my mind!

Hopefully I can get it finished before I get too involved with work again. *cross your fingers*

  4. I think I did this one way back when. Tags are easy when one doesn't have much brain space.
Do you want to do this Shakespeare one?"

    1. Unfortunately I must confess, I have yet to become properly acquainted with Shakespeare's work. I have a very basic, grasp of him but not enough to fill out the tag. But thank you for the suggestion.

  5. I entirely agree about Sam being just about the most loyal "sidekick" ever known. However. Just out of curiosity, what do you think about Sydney Carton in Dickens' "A Tale of Two Cities?" Thanks for the fun post. :-)

    1. Hmmm, it's been awhile but from what I can recall, and this sounds horrible, Sydney's sacrifice doesn't strike as true to me as Sam. And I'll explain why. Sam strayed true to a friendship and a loyalty even when he wasn't being treated like a friend but as an enemy because Frodo's judgement became clouded. He stayed by Frodo's side again and again even while he was being, in some ways, abused by Frodo. Sydney, and I'm fine to be corrected if I'm not recalling correctly, did a noble thing by taking Darnay's place but I'm not sure he saw himself as having a life to live so the choice was an "easy" one for him. Does this all makes sense or do I just sound like a horrible person slamming some else's sacrifice of their life? In short, I want to know your thoughts now if that's alright. :)

    2. I agree. :-) Although I do think that in the book Frodo only turned against Sam in very brief moments when the ring had too much of an effect. Mostly they were very close, I think. Plus, Sam realized (eventually) that there was very little chance of him ever coming back. Sydney Carton, alternatively, disliked Darnay if anything and yet gave his life for him. On the other hand, you are absolutely right about his not thinking he had much of a life to live. Also, he obviously wasn't doing it for Darnay, so I guess he doesn't really fit the "Sidekick" label in some ways. Also, I think that just the fact that Sam stayed by Frodo's side for so many weeks and even months through all kinds of horrible trials is a lot more impressive and difficult than one quick, almost painless substitution. Even if Sam didn't die in Frodo's place, he did risk his life by giving up food, water, and rest for Frodo who was in sore need of it, not to mention fighting Shelob, etc., etc. All in all, I totally agree about Sam being a superior example. I was just curious as to what you thought. Thanks for answering my comment! It was very interesting. :)

    3. Yes, I agree about book Frodo vs. movie Frodo. And I'm glad you understood what I was saying. I wasn't sure I was explaining myself very well and if misunderstood, I would sound very insensitive. Hahaha.
Thanks for your question and your own opinion! I like these kinds of conversations. :D
