A Date With Judy: Musical/Comedy

I love old movies. There is a depth to them that can't seem to be matched in the films that come out these days. It is an unfair comparison because classic Hollywood includes stars like Cary Grant, Gregory Peck, Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn. I'm afraid that with these standards Tom Cruise just doesn't cut it for me.

I discovered old movies while trying to find a way to spend some time with my grandparents. Old movies became an easy bridge between our different lives. I started with Fred Astaire movies with my Great Grandma which grew into movies of deeper meaning like "To Kill a Mockingbird", "Key Largo" and "The Big Country" which my Grandpa introduced me to. (I will have to take a moment one day and tell you of the love I have for Gregory Peck's voice!)

Anyway, I have loved the time I have spent not only watching the films with my grandparents but discussing them afterwards. There is usual a story or a memory that is triggered and I will always be ready for a good story!

I want to share some of my favorite choices here at the blog not only because I want to share my love but also because I never know how many of you might also be looking for better entertainment choices for your family.

"A Date with Judy"

"A Date with Judy" stars Jane Powell, Elizabeth Taylor and Robert Stack.

Judy, played by Jane Powell, is a typical 16 year old girl with a supportive, relatively normal, family. Carol, played by Elizabeth Taylor, is Judy's manipulative, best friend who has handled her life as well as the lives of others with regrettably little interference by her workaholic father. When one of Carol's plans leave Judy without a date for a school dance Judy finds her fortune take a turn for the better when she arrives to her dance with the much older man Steve, played by Robert Stack.
There are many little side stories that are layered into the film that makes it charming and delightful. My favorite side story would have to be the relationship between Judy's parents. It's darling.
I LOVE the dresses that were worn by both of the girls in the film. I miss the age of the dress!
I can't think of anything that you should be warned of in the film. It's very clean and would be great for a girls night. Happy watching.

Yours truly,
Cordy
