If you find yourself overthinking Beauty and the Beast you might get a little 'grossed out' about the fact that Belle appears to fall in love with an animal. If that were the case that's a very sordid idea indeed! We all know that he's actually human but the fact remains he's currently an animal. Here is what I've always told myself: I set my mind at ease by imagining that Adam (the human name for the beast...at least in the animated Disney film it is), is simply being forced to remain in an animal form like he would if he chose to be an animagus. For those of you who may not know, an animagus is a human that can choose to adopt an animal form for a limited time. They are no less human but their appearances change. But instead of having chosen to become an animagus Adam, as punishment from the enchantress, is forced to remain in the animal form. This causes him difficulties in all aspects of his life which we learn as we watch the 'tale as old as time'.
And there you have it. None of this is based in any kind of 'fact' that I can source. There're merely my own thoughts about the matter. I hope this may have set some minds at ease.

Very good point, Cordy! I'm one of those who overthinks, and never quite liked the idea of Belle falling in love with an animal. But what you said makes a lot of sense. This is fantasy. Adam is a man trapped in a beast's body. Within the realms of fantasy it's totally legitimate, and right, that Belle should fall in love with him. :)

It does seem like an extreme way to learn a lesson, right? Haha. But hey, there's a happy ending for him!
