What Would You Read?

No, this isn't a hint to what I'd like to handle.
It's just a pretty picture.
SO I've been tossing a little project around my head for a couple days. I know that's not very long but that's how it goes with me. Anyways, I've been thinking about attempting a short story over the summer. In brainstorming I think I'd like to attempt some kind of fairy-tale. I've never written a short story so I have no idea what I might be getting myself into and I won't be making any promises. Now, just because I know what kind of genre I'm looking at doesn't mean I know what story I'd like to meddle with. Therefore I'm looking to my faithful readers to help me and I'm triggering this mega internet brainstorm session. I've considered many different fairy-tales both familiar and fairly forgotten but I just want more ideas. Again, I'm not promising anything, but I'm asking all the same. Without further ado, I ask you:

What fairy-tale would you like a retelling of? ANNND, which fairy-tale do you think has been re-told too often?

(The Princess and the Frog, The Little Twerp Mermaid, Snow White, Jack and the Beanstalk, The Twelve Dancing Princesses?)

Those are just ideas. They aren't the only options you can choose from.
I'm looking forward to your answers!

Yours truly,
Cordy

  3. HAHAHA THE LITTLE TWERP XD

*clears throat* I think Beauty and the Beast and Cinderella have been retold A LOT recently. SO I would like to see a Princess and the Frog retelling!

  4. The first ones that come to mind of course are Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast. I'd definitely be interested in reading your version of one of those if you happened to write one. However if there's any that have been re-told too often it's probably those two. Heehee. ;) (Still I have to admit, I currently have a Cinderella retelling swirling around in my brain at this moment, and I've often thought of writing a Beauty and the Beast story, too, so...)

As to the other ones you mentioned. The Seven Dancing Princesses would be a lot of fun, I think. You should write that one! :) And Jack and the Beanstalk sounds interesting, too. Seriously though, I'd be interested in reading any of these stories if you chose to write one. :)

  5. Cinderella has been retold too often. I would like The Little Mermaid (Told by YOU!!!) Because I know that you and I think the same on that matter. I agree with your cross out. :)

  6. I like the fairy tale of the 12 Dancing Princesses. What about a retelling of the Nutcracker?

Or, what about Allerleirauh? I like that fairy tale, especially since it is not very well known. To be honest, I find the beginning creepy but after Allerleirauh leaves her father, I like the story. Maybe you can make the retelling so that Allerleirauh leaves her home to find freedom, like leaving a fate of being married to a suitor (a conceited and annoying prince).
