| Oh good, this is me. Anyone else? |
1. What genres, styles, and topics do you write about?
Well, well well... I've attempted many genres. At the present moment, I'm involved with fairy-tales and modern tales. Just not woven together. I don't think in "genres". I think in characters more than anything else.
Um, I have a really hard time identifying 'styles' so I guess I'll go with mine. Yes, that's it, I write in my style. (Yes, bad joke but please bear with me.)
Topics--as I mentioned here I'm working on some fairy-tales. If you have any suggestions feel free to leave them in the comment section of that post.
2. For how long have you been writing?
Ever since I could. I didn't notice it at the time but ever since I could literally write I've been writing. It's the only consistent thing in my life really. Interest-wise that is. (Man, that sounded much deeper than I intended it to be. My bad.)
3. Why do you write?
I know that many people will say this but it's the truth. I'd honestly lose my mind if I didn't write. There are thoughts, theories, plots, characters all hammering away in my brain and they will not be ignored. If they were to be given up or even forgotten--I literally stopped typing as there is, in all seriousness, no happy ending to that scenario. Wow, moving on! *quickly*
4. When is the best time to write?
I'm getting better at making it anytime. But I'd rather write in the morning or later at night. If I get too far into the afternoon, it just isn't gonna happen.
5. What are the parts of writing you love? What parts do you hate?
Getting the first whisper of a new story is the best!! The idea will spin round and round in your head as you begin to peek behind every door and gaze through every window. If you're lucky you'll even strike up conversations with a constant stream of characters. The fact that you can have an entire story etched in your head complete with history, locations, and characters is incredible. The power of imagination is a magnificent blessing!
Also, because you, as the author, are called upon to be so many characters you get to learn so much about yourself through the characters you know don't exist but at the same time, totally exist because they are all part of you. Does that even make sense? I mean, you can do so many things through your characters you can't help but be always involved with them.
I really don't like editing. The fact that you have to go and correct what seems like an endless thread of mistakes is deflating.
6. How do you overcome writer's block?
I do a couple different things:
1) I start going through several different scenarios following where each path will lead until I find a path that leads where I need to go.
2) I start typing anything. It may have nothing to do with the story but I just start babbling and typing whatever comes into my head and soon, I'm actually writing the story again. Then I go and delete the babble that I have randomly jammed into my work. :D
3) Now if these things aren't working I take one character, usually a secondary character, and examine the situation from their point of view. Every detail of their reaction is taken into account. This usually gets me out of the block. I go through as many characters as I need until the block is breached.
4) Lastly, if these techniques are failing, I go back and actually delete the scene I've been working on and see if I can guide the story elsewhere. (Yes, there is a reason I left this answer for last. It's my last resort!)
7. Are you working on something at the moment?
Yup. Always. Annnd, I'm going to let you guess the title of the book using these scrambled letters. I rarely have titles for my works so this is a treat. :) This is also the first time I've shared something closely connected with my writing in the blogging world. Yikes!!
Oh, and I won't be answering the title/retelling question in the comments until I've finished a special project as a title reveal.
8. What are your writing goals for this year?
*heavy sigh* I should honestly make a few. I'm really bad at making goals. Have been my whole life. Isn't that awful? I'll have to think of some goals...
I had a marvelous time with this tag, so thank you, ladies!!

P.S. Just so you know, I'm going to be in and out of the blogging world at strange and random times. Sometimes I'll be in and other times it will be like I fell off the planet. So, if I'm away from posting and commenting for awhile, please forgive me. Know that I'm reading your blogs and that I'm writing. (You know, what I should actually be doing at this moment rather than apologizing for my lack of writing. ;)) TTFN.

Manipulated Melody: A Retelling of Ariel (because Ursula steals her voice?)? I finally unscrambled the hint. :) Good luck! :)
ReplyDeleteKerry!!
DeleteHow have you been? How was your summer? I hope you understand why I held back your comment. As you were so clever as to guess the title (however did you manage that? I didn't know how hard the task would be until I made the picture. Well done!), I wanted to see if anyone else could accomplish the impossible before I published your comment. :D Again, I'm impressed!
I hope you are well,
Cordy
Love this post! <3
ReplyDeleteThanks, my friend. :)
Delete"We write down made-up stories to tell the truths we wish we could say out loud." <----THAT!!!! <3 <3
ReplyDeleteCordy, it is going to take me forever to figure out what that is! You like building the suspense, don't you? *goes off in a huff*
Just kidding! I love puzzles! What a cool idea!! I will be back to guess!
It's one of my very favorite quotes on writing!! :D
DeleteHaha, I can't wait to see what you work out.
I told you I'd be back! I worked this out all be myself.
DeleteManipulated Melody: A Retelling of The Little Mermaid? or Snow White? Now I am dying to know, what is it?
Hi Cordy! I honestly had forgotten I tagged you. Sorry.....
ReplyDeleteI loved your answers!

No worries! I'm guilty of making the same mistake. Besides, it took me forever to fill it out. Sheesh!
DeleteThanks, Lilah!
Thanks for tagging me, Cordy! Once again, I'm going to pass, but I still super appreciate it. ;)
ReplyDeleteSame! Morning and night time writing is usually what works best for me, too. I usually prefer late at night, after everyone is in bed, but I also like to use that time to relax and read or even go to bed early...it's a struggle. :/
"The power of imagination is a magnificent blessing!" << YES. And what you said about fictional characters make soooo much sense. It's exhilarating getting to live so many lives through writing-or reading! I love that quote you included. It reminds me of the times I imagine myself talking or just hanging out with fictional characters.
(Wow. ahem. Did I just admit I have imaginary friends at 19 years old?? ....O_o)
I love your method of reimagining/rewriting a scene from different POV's. I've done that a little bit before. It's fun. :D
Oooh, a guessing game!! *stares at the picture for a long time*
Ummmmm.
This.
Is.
Really.
Hard.
I guess I'll have to wait till the title reveal. (Actually, I'm going to go plug those letters into a word scrambler, but I won't guess since that would technically be cheating. ha) (Can't wait for the big reveal!!!!)
This was quite fun, Cordy! :D
Oooooooh. The word scrambler helped me out. ;) That title is SO cool and now I have a pretty fair guess as to what the retelling is. I CAN'T WAIT TO HEAR MORE ABOUT IT, CORDY!!!
ReplyDeleteI totally understand. I've let several tags pass me by as well. I think I have to be in the mood for a tag.
DeleteHa, struggle? With writing/reading/sleeping time? However can that be? ;P
Yes, yes, you did just admit that. Don't they make for very agreeable companions? I don't know what I'd do without my set of imaginary friends.
Okay, confession...even though I'm known for making games hard, I had no idea how hard this would be until I made the scrambled picture. I don't think I would have been able to guess if the assignment had been given to me. So I don't blame you at all. My bad! Hahaha. Not that I really regret it though. ;)
Thanks, Natalie!
Oh, I loved reading this. You just *sound* like a writer. You expressed perfectly what it's like being the writer you are, and you could do so because you are such. (Ahem. You may be able to tell that I am not exactly a writer (I dabble) because of how I worded that.) And what you said about why you write, especially, I found amazing. I think your goal of being a published author is not an unrealistic one, for sure.
ReplyDelete(Also, you said you hate editing...I love editing, so if you ever wanted someone you don't actually know in real life to edit anything, I'd be happy to oblige. :D )
Oh, and the scrambled title... I could only figure the last word is Melody, but I wondered, is the top one word or two?
Love this post! :D
Well thanks, Rae. *adjusts my imaginary glasses* (I always associate writing with glasses. I don't know why. I do have a pair but I'm not wearing them right now.) Dabbling is good. That's how I started a long time ago.
DeleteThank you very much for your offer. I will certainly keep you in mind because I don't like editing in the slightest.
You know the answer now but I'll tell you, the top word is a single word. But I'm glad you were able to puzzle it out in some part. You were halfway there. Hahaha.
