Never have I ever . . .
Of course I have. I'm trying to imagine following through on every idea I've ever had. That would be physically and mentally impossible. Not every idea is brilliant and I feel like I only have time to develop the very best. Does anyone else feel that way, like they have a small window of time so choose your ideas wisely? Or is that just me?

| How my neglected ideas feel... |
I wrote a short story completely by hand when I was very young, because I didn't know how to use a computer. And I do quite a bit of writing by hand because I'll write it out by hand and then once I'm adding it to the computer document I can do some basic editing on it. There's also the fact that I prefer to carry a notebook wherever I go rather than a laptop, I'm just sayin'.
. . . changed tenses midway through a story.
Oh yes I have on many occasions. The problem is, sometimes I don't notice until I'm skim editing and it's such a pain to reword and edit properly.
. . . not researched anything before starting a story.
Most of my novels I don't research "whatever it may be" until I need the information that second for the scene I'm working on. I'm really lazy about research if I'm honest. A lot of my writing is based on guess work that I prove and alter as needed later.
. . . changed my protagonist’s name halfway through a draft.
Yup, been there, done that. Several times in one particular WIP. Sometimes the name doesn't fit the book setting but it fits your character. How does that work?!

. . . written a story in a month or less.
Indeed I have! :D
. . . fallen asleep while writing.
Yes, I've had notebook spirals imprinted on my forehead when I woke up once and boy was that painful. Think stepping on a Lego pain, but it's your forehead, not your foot, that's affected. But I still laughed at myself over it.

Is that really a writing thing? I don't know that I've done it online, but it can be fun to pretend to be a grammar snob in real life. Because in all honesty, I don't correct grammar most of the time because I know I'm not an expert on any of it. (As the readers that have been with me the longest will know.)
. . . yelled in all caps at myself in the middle of a novel.
Not in caps, but have I just started a random stream of thought to get my mind going.
. . . used “I’m writing” as an excuse.
Guilty, and moving on.
. . . killed a character who was based on someone I know in real life.
No. Yes, I've killed characters for various reasons and story needs, but I haven't killed someone in my books because I couldn't in real life. That's slightly messed up in my mind. I don't really want to kill anyone, I've never been that vengeful. But I have created characters based on people I know in real life and most of the time, I like that I can finally, and literally, control the narrative. :)
. . . used pop culture references in a story.
No, and that's probably because I don't like to read them in other books so I don't include them in my own writing. (But to be fair, I did use them once upon a time. I just found I didn't like them in stories.)
. . . written between the hours of 1am and 6am.
Many, many times. That's when my mind is most awake it seems.
. . . drank an entire pot of coffee while writing.
I'm not a coffee drinker, but a few cups of cocoa, that's another story. Hehehe.
I loathe my dreams, so no.
. . . published an unedited story on the internet / Wattpad / blog.
An unedited what now?! No, never!! Oh the horror!
. . . procrastinated homework because I wanted to write.
Who hasn't done that? I ask you. I haven't been in school for awhile but did I, absolutely!
. . . typed so long that my wrists hurt.
Yes. It's been awhile since I have but I used to have that struggle on a regular basis.
. . . spilled a drink on my laptop while writing.
No, thank goodness.
. . . forgotten to save my work / draft.
Not forgotten so much as had a laptop crash, yes. NOT a happy camper! :'(
. . . finished a novel.
Finished is a big word for me. I've completed two full drafts. However, edited finished, I've sadly yet to reach that goal of mine.
. . . laughed like an evil villain while writing a scene.
So like a cackle? Totally. Sometimes I have far to much fun with my imaginings. Which is often why I don't write around other people. There are times where I have to perform the scene in some way and let me tell you, an audience is NOT welcome! Hahaha.
. . . cried while writing a scene.
Loads of times. And that doesn't mean just the sad scenes because they're the reward and the success scenes as well.

Nope. I lack that skill. I don't even envision a map of my worlds for me. There are places that are north, south, east, and west. My characters know the rest even if I didn't teach it to them. :D
. . . researched something shady for a novel.
Nothing especially shady that I can remember, but on the bizarre side, for sure. Oh there has been some research into poison. But it truly was novel based, I swear.
Well there you have it. I hereby tag, those who want to have some fun procrastinating actually writing by writing about it instead of actually doing it. ;D
Yours truly,
Cordy

The notebook spiral impression on your forehead hurts so much! Yep, I've had that happen, too. Lol.
ReplyDeleteThat is so awesome that you have completed two full drafts! Way to go!!! May I ask what they are about?
Loved these!
ReplyDeleteI'm so with you on the idea of publishing something unedited. Oh. My. Why would anyone do that???
