Books I Can't Shut Up About

Hello again! I'm still working out a schedule here. I can't say I'll be checking in as frequently as I once did. Once a week might be the reality. That being so, I'm bringing you some books that have brought me joy recently! For those of you who already follow along on bookstagram, I'm sure you'll be able to confirm the validity of the title of this post.

The Secret of Ormdale is a series I stumbled upon that has been a delight! Victorian-era dragon keepers, who wouldn't be interested in that? If you said you, I beg you to reconsider. Ormdale is an engaging balance for those who aren't ready to give up their fantasy longings but can't get on board with either the teenage angst any longer of teen and even some YA reads, nor can they reconcile the questionable content in current fantasy reads. It's cozy, imaginative, and has an educated style that isn't intimidating but might challenge a few of you in the best way. Once you start, you will be hooked! Having recommended and sometimes even provided copies to many friends and family members alike, I can assure you that is no empty reading "threat", you will need answers! Also, in case the image is poor quality once this posts, the series goes in this order, Wormwood Abbey, Drake Hall, Castle of the Winds, City of Serpents, Valley of Dragons. Do I have a favorite of the bunch, no I do not, they are all five stars for me!

The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion
My next selection is not pictured well here, my humble apologies! But these are the Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion. MY FRIENDS, make haste and get yourselves this series! So far, they have made me laugh and cry, not an easy feat for me in all honesty, and feel fury and compassion. Emma is a witty heroine to follow along with who will take you off guard with what she does, thinks, or experiences next! I hesitate to compare her to anyone, nor to make associations with this story to others. However, what I can speak to, just as I have with the series above, I have recommended them to many friends and family, some of which I had questioned whether they were the right read for them and they have not failed me yet. In case you haven't guessed, they are written in the form of journal entries of a literally coming of age, literally, Emma, starting in the year 1883. Each novel covers two months of her life. There are fictitious but necessary "chaperones", reprobates, Shakespeare, disappearing items, a wandering town ghost, a need to establish one's own library, and SO MUCH more. But can I say more, no, certainly not! Spoilers and all that, how could you suggest such a thing.

Happiest of reading!

  1. Hello Cordy!
I'm definitely intrigued by "The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion!" I usually love journal entry-type books or epistolatory styles such as "Daddy Long Legs." It's a joy to see you back on Blogger. I just returned myself. I don't know if I ever commented on your blog before, so it's nice to officially make your acquaintance. Have a lovely day!
