It is Christmas time!! Can you feel it yet? Have you had any snow? Do you have Christmas lights strung upon your house? (You should!)
This year has been quite a deal. I've suffered a few mishaps and struggled through a problem or two (or twenty), but I'm finally slipping into the Christmas spirit.
As I've done previous years, here are a few little things book and movie wise that I've experienced this year.
Now, remember, I'm a bad "new reader" and I don't mention all the books I might have read.
New Books Discovered
Entwined // Cloaked // Rilla of Ingleside (that's right, Rilla is a new read. Oops)
Movies discovered
Spider-Man: Homecoming (ehh) // Wonder Woman (:D) // Beauty and the Beast (ehh) // The Lego Ninjago Movie (tried to be funny) // Dunkirk (fascinating) // Cars 3 (much improved from Cars 2) // Rogue One (liked it WAY more than expected) // Hidden Figures (fantastic!) // Easy to Wed (classic, what more can I say?) // Jane Eyre (I have yet to finish it) // A United Kingdom (intriguing, though I haven't done the historical research to confirm accuracy...I rarely put that kind of energy towards a movie) // Coco (spectacular!!) // The Man Who Invented Christmas (as a writer the movie did a really good job of catching what it's like to have characters always, ALWAYS, on the brain) // Star Wars: The Last Jedi (still working my thoughts out...I'll admit that I liked it better than Force Awakens)
You can't tell that I'm a visual person at all, can you? ;) Oh, and I didn't even try to list all the Hallmark movies that I've watched...no way!
As I mentioned earlier, this year was a big deal. It has been "a change" in many different ways. We, as a society, have endured record-breaking tragedies in the form of violence and natural disasters. Which puts my own struggles from the past year into perspective a tiny bit. :) However, with all this, my outlook on life hasn't darkened. At least not for long. *nervous and somewhat guilty grin* True, I don't want to relive another 2017 and I'm very much looking forward to the brand new year but I can't help but mention a few fun things that happened to those of you that I'm blessed to call my friends.
Rae moved and is experiencing new things and some serious life changes. I hope it's going well, Rae!
Miss March is so busy taking all the jobs it has left Natalie in a lurch concerning her own search. ;) Hahaha. I hope you know I'm kidding, Miss March. Still referring to these two terrific people, they got to meet up!! What lucky ducks!!
Meredith created another blog for her movie watching & reviewing needs.
ANNNNDDD, Hamlette published her book, Cloaked!

*clapping for Hamlette*
So my year wasn't a total let down. I did do a thing or two of a noteworthy nature. Sort of. <<how's that for conviction!
A few things I accomplished this past year:
I got a raise at work (not a huge deal but it's a raise) // I opened and started to author another blog // I attempted a short story (that is now in a rewrite instead of an edit because there's too much construction to edit right now ;)) // I married Mr. Darcy ;) (with the help of a boardgame) // I almost bought a car (I'd given her a name and everything..but alas, I was too slow!) // Went to see "Hello, Dolly" at a local playhouse (I'm hoping to go to more plays this coming year)
That's all that comes to mind for now. Before I wish you all the merriest of merry Christmases, I want to give a general heads up. There will be some changes coming here for the blog. My focus and intentions are shifting slightly and I didn't want any of you taken off guard when you happen to check in when the blog has changed.
Now, in the meantime, have a very, very, Merry Christmas with as much family and as many friends as you can!!!
Yours truly,
Cordy
P.S. Before you go, just watch this for me. It's one of my favorite scenes in movie history. That's right, as in one of my favorites EVER.

Merry Christmas, Cordy! This year has had it's share of hard times, but there were a lot of great experiences!
ReplyDeleteOf those books, I have read Cloaked. I haven't read Rilla of Ingleside yet, so you weren't the only one. :)
Of those movies, I have seen Beauty and the Beast and Star Wars: The Last Jedi (I saw it only two days ago! It is so good! I like it better then TFA). I am sort of extremely jealous that you got to see The Man Who Invented Christmas because I so wanted to see it but no movie theater near me had it! Oh well, I'll watch it when it comes to DVD. ;) My sister saw Wonder Woman but it is still on my to-watch list.
Merry Christmas, and may 2018 be your best year yet!!!!!!!!! :D
Haha, really? Maybe Rilla can be on your to-read this coming year.
DeleteYou'll have to tell me what you think of "The Man Who Invented Christmas" when you finally get to see it. :)
Thanks, MovieCritic! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year!!
Merry Christmas to you, Cordy!
ReplyDeleteHow did you like Rilla?
Oh wow, you saw a lot of movies! I'd really like to see Spider-Man, The Man Who Invented Christmas, Dunkirk, Cars 3, Hidden Figures, and The Last Jedi. Oh and The Greatest Showman too. I loved Rogue One too, I'd love to get it on DVD.
I can't wait to see what you do with this blog! I hope that 2018 will be a better year for you, dear :).

I hope you had a good Christmas, Catherine!!
DeleteShe surprised me really. In my experience I felt like Montgomery had established a pattern with her main characters. She always made them very whimsical and in very dramatic ways. And I'm not listing those attributes as bad because I don't know where I'd be without Anne Shirley in my life! Haha. With Rilla I think Montgomery may have shaken things up. I hope that makes sense. Have you read Rilla? What are/were your thoughts?
Yesss. Movies really are my thing. ;) I'm hearing great things about "The Greatest Showman" and "Rogue One" is fantastic.
Thank you for the well wishes, Catherine. <3 Hope you have a splendid year yourself! :D

Which Jane Eyre version were you watching? I finally watched the trailer you sent me for The Man Who Invented Christmas. It does look rather intriguing though maybe a little overly dramatic?? (Though most trailers are rather dramatic, I guess. :))
ReplyDeleteYes! It's always so nice to start a fresh new year! :)
Awwww! Love how you mentioned some of the things that have been going on in our blogging friends' lives. That was really sweet. (And what you said about me and Natalie...hahaha. You're too much!! I certainly am no TRYING to take all the jobs. I would give all my jobs away at once if I could but as it is...)
Oh no!!! BUT I LOVE YOUR BLOG THE WAY IT IS!!! What ARE you going to do to it? I hope it's nothing too drastic. Now you're making me nervous. ;P (Okay so I'm not always very good with change. Don't worry though, I'm sure it will be good whatever you do, and I'll get used to it, so it's okay. Really. :D I just had to be a little dramatic about it because...well why not? I like to be dramatic. ;) Heehee.)
A VERY WONDERFUL AND MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU TOO, CORDY DEAR!! <3 <3 <3 Thanks for the fun post. It was so good to hear from you!!!
~Miss March
The one you grew up with, at least I think you told me it was. It has Timothy Dalton as Rochester. And I was really enjoying it before I had to take it back to the library.. *sigh*
DeleteOkay, about "The Man Who Invented Christmas", it did have it's overly dramatic moments, I think the one scene that really had me worried in the trailer was where he says "I'll never write again". Having seen the movie I can explain that that line is said while he's drunk and therefore purposefully overly dramatic. Does that makes sense. Sorry, spoiler alert...is that truly a spoiler? Anyway, I loved it in many ways but disagreed with it to some degree at the same time. And unless you've seen it, I can't really explain because you wouldn't know what I'm referencing. So, should you ever see it, remind me and we'll talk about it. Hahaha.
I told you I was joking, my dear friend. ;D But you guys were terribly lucky to meet each other. I wasn't joking about that! :D
Alright, I've seen your other comment concerning the change so I'm not so worried now at addressing your concerns. I remember when this comment came in and I was like..."um, it is a little on the drastic side, depending on what someone considers drastic". But, I'm glad you like the change, even though you were worried about it here. Haha, indeed, there is a bit of fun in being dramatic once in awhile, isn't there?
<3

Yes! That's the one we own! It's so good. I'm glad you were enjoying it, but too bad you had to take it back to the library before you were finished with it. :( I guess you'll just have to check it out again sometime.
DeleteOh yes. That makes perfect sense. And no worries about spoilers. (Anyway, I love spoilers! Heehee. ;)) I definitely want to see it sometime, and yes we MUST talk about it when I do! :)
:D :D
There is indeed. ;)
~Miss March
Aww, I love this!!! And thank you so much for your sweet words!!! I wish I had seen this earlier, it would have made my Christmas even better! Love you!
ReplyDeleteAww, sorry! But I hope you were busy elsewhere, with family perhaps. (Were you able to talk with your brother on Christmas?!)
DeleteHope you're having a great start to a new year!!
Yes! We got to video chat!
DeleteYou too!!
*nodding happily* :D
DeleteYaaayyyy!!!! *sprinkles a shower of Christmas confetti* This was fun to read what you've been up to this year. :D A lot of those movies are ones I saw this year/ones I really want to see. :)
ReplyDeleteI hope you had a fantastic Christmas, Olivia!
DeleteDo tell me which ones you've seen and which ones you've yet to see...if you would be so kind that is. :)
I did, thank you! Hope you did, as well. <3
Delete*stretches* Okay, let's see here. Movies I saw this year: Beauty and the Beast (the new one, I'm assuming?), Hidden Figures, and The Last Jedi (I'm pretty sure I saw Rogue One in 2016, but it might have been '17). Movies I want to see: A United Kingdom (!!!) and The Man Who Invented Christmas. I also have a mild interest in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Wonder Woman, and Dunkirk. :)
Hi Cordy!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm very very VERY sorry this comment is ridiculously late....but I did want to stop in and say MERRY CHRISTMAS! before it gets too close to Christmas 2018 instead of 2017. :P
I too saw quite a few of the movies you mentioned...my family and I watched Dunkirk on New Year's Eve and it was amaaaazzzing. Really loved that one. :)
I hope 2018 treats you splendidly, friend! *hugs*
PS. Ahahaha, that shout out about Miss March taking all the job opportunities made me giggle. ;D
No no, don't worry about lateness... Time is hard enough as it is without being sorry for it. :D
DeleteI hope you had a Merry Christmas, Natalie!!
It wasn't like any movie I'd seen--in a very good way. Hahaha. That would have been a fun New Years film too. Perfect for keeping you awake and interested!
You too!
Happy 2018!!
P.S. I couldn't resist. *guilty shrug*
