Summer Magic is probably one of my favorite movies. I've already done a review of the movie and you can find that here, so if you want to avoid spoilers, read the review and not this post. :D (Also, forgive the age of the post because it was one of my first posts here on the blog...and it's horrible! Haha.)
This has to be one of the shortest love stories in reference to time because it only "takes place" in the course of one day. But at least there isn't a marriage or engagement that happens by the end.
Anyway, I really can't help adoring Nancy and Tom Hamilton. I find Nancy to be one of the most relatable characters if I'm literally talking about myself. She is socially awkward because she is on the dramatic side and yet she does have a good heart and good intentions. Basically, she's almost too sincere. :D She's also something of a troublemaker and that gets her into some trouble. (By the way, I can't relate to that side of her at all. ;))
And then there's Tom, who, I'm not going to lie, I still find incredibly good looking. He can work the tux! *blushing grin* Okay, moving on, he's a good soul because he doesn't exactly take pity on Nancy but he certainly does her a terrific favor by becoming her date for an important evening. Otherwise, Nancy would have endured the horrors of either walking in alone or being escorted by her brother. Oh, the disgrace! ;)
As a girl who doesn't exactly catch a man's eye, my heart can't help but love the way this man kind of makes a Cinderella out of Nancy for an evening. Every girl needs at least one fairytale evening in her life and Tom made that possible for Nancy.
Anyway, have to dash!
Yours truly,
Cordy
P.S. Oh, and should I mention they dance? (You know, one of the things I love enough to make entire posts up about?) So yes, they dance and it's cute!

Awww. They sound so sweet! I need to watch this movie again. I remember not liking it very much, but I'm certainly willing to give it a second chance. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat post, Cordy! :)
I know it's not for everyone. It has many little quirks that I love simply because I grew up with it. :)
DeleteSummer Magic isn't my favorite Hayley Mills movie but I do like it very much. It's so sweet and happy and FUN. And I think I'd like Tom better if he was in the movie more. It's too bad they didn't make the movie a bit longer--or have a sequel! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm sure I'd love it EVEN MORE if Tom were more involved. XD <3
DeleteI might have to watch this!
ReplyDeleteIf you do, you'll have to let me know what you think!
Delete"Summer Magic" is a fun movie! It is based on the book "Mother Carey's Chickens". In the book Nancy and Tom exchange letters before meeting. It is a wonderful story. Since you like the movie I would definitely recommend "Mother Carey's Chickens". : )
ReplyDeleteI must confess, I didn't like the book. I think it might have been because I watched the movie first. (At first I didn't know it was based on a book.) When I read it, it wasn't as enchanting or engaging to me as the movie is/was. (Please don't tell me that I've totally crushed you because it's a favorite book of yours...)

P.S. What's the story behind your blog name, "The Scarlet Thread"?
I have never heard of Summer Magic. *adds to my to-watch list*
ReplyDelete*clapping* I hope you like it once you get around to it!
