In honor of my birth month, August, I've decided to host another low-key blog party. This time the topic of choice will be classic movies. And by classic, I mean any movies made between 1930 to 1965. (My TCM reference book set the boundaries of truly "classic movies" as movies made from the silent era through 1965. I decided to omit the silent era because they aren't my favorite. Forgive me, silent movie lovers!) I hope this sounds like fun! Like I did with my Lovely Blog Party in February, I'm actually going to be hosting this shin-dig for the entire month of August so it leaves plenty of time for participation.
So, the topic is classic movies but this doesn't mean that only reviews will be involved. If you want to rave about an actor, actress, or simply the different qualities that classic movies possess, do join in!! Those posts are welcome!
I've made a few buttons for you in case you're interested and I'm looking for all of you to join in! Even if it's just playing the game I intend to make. (I should really get on that.) Please leave a comment with any intended entries so we can all look forward to the classically focused posts!!
Intended Party Posts:
Fred Astaire Appreciation Post @ Any Merry Little Thought
Mystery Game @ Any Merry Little Thought
Casablanca Movie Review @ Any Merry Little Thought
A Post on Costuming @ Rose Petals and Faerie Dust
Dear Ruth Movie Review @ The Maidens of Green Gables
Roman Holiday Movie Review @ Musings of a Jane Austen Wannabe
One last thing, for the game I have in mind, I would greatly appreciate it if you would leave a comment listing your five favorite actors and five favorite actresses of this era. (If you can't think of five that's fine, just list your favorites!) It will help me make the game applicable--in theory, to more of you. :D Thanks for your help!A Post on Costuming @ Rose Petals and Faerie Dust
Dear Ruth Movie Review @ The Maidens of Green Gables
Roman Holiday Movie Review @ Musings of a Jane Austen Wannabe
I must be dashing! :D
Yours truly,
Cordy
P.S. In talking with Miss Elizabeth, who can be found here, we were thinking how fun it could be to have more monthlong parties hosted by many other bloggers. I know I've taken February but I think March would be a fitting month for a Louisa May Alcott Party and surely someone could host a month of Austen some time, September or October sound like a Tolkien Party waiting to happen (wait, maybe that's because Hamlette always hosts a party in one of the two...I can't remember which but it's always a good time!), and so on and so forth. It was just an idea, that I wanted to throw out there. Have a great day!! :D

Ooh, I love classic movies. I'm game, but it is hard to pick only five favorites.
ReplyDeleteMy five favorite actors are Cary Grant, Clark Gable, William Powell, Robert Montgomery and Robert Taylor. Actresses are Katharine Hepburn, Barbara Stanwyck, Myrna Loy Jean Arthur and Norma Shearer.
I'll be thinking about what subject I want to write about for your blog party.
They're my favorite!! :D
DeleteThanks for your answers!
Awesome!!!
I'm working on a post about George Brent and a separate one about my favorite underrated rom-coms.
DeleteOk, so I've decided to do a post on George Brent and then another one listing my favorite under-rated romantic comedies.
DeleteSounds great! I'll watch for your links!
DeleteHere is my first entry on George Brent.

actually, I don't really have that many favorites, at least, I can't seem to think of anymore than those above right now, I'm sure they'll come to me just when I didn't think about them.
have a lovely day.
Haha, I'm not great at coming up with "favorites" on the spot either. That's why I had to create my favorites page here at the blog. I needed a reference for myself. :) Thanks for giving some answers anyway!
DeleteYou too!
Hi Cordy,
ReplyDeleteMy sister and I would like to participate, but don't exactly know how to go about it (we've just begun our blog and have yet to participate in a blog party). Our intended post would be a review of the movie Dear Ruth featuring William Holden. Should we post it on our blog (https://maidensofgreengables.blogspot.com/) or send it to you? It sounds like a lot of fun and we can't wait!
Thanks
Grace and Katherine
Welcome you two!
Delete*clapping* I am ever so excited for your post!! :D I've only seen "Dear Ruth" in play form and when I found out there was a movie...I was so happy. (And then I was totally bummed because my library doesn't have a copy. How rude of them, don't you think?) Anyway, to answer your questions... Tomorrow I'm going to post a kick-off post for the party. For the rest of the month, as you play the game or post your review/s, leave a link to the post (that you post on your own blog), in the comment section of the party kick-off post. At the end of the month I'll compile a mega post that will include all the links from the party so everyone can view all the posts. Does that answer you question? If not, just let me know.
Again, I'm so excited for your review!!
Yours truly,
Cordy
Thanks Cordy, you can find Dear Ruth on ebay along with two sequels!
DeleteThat answers our question perfectly! We decided to make it a three part post for each of the three movies: Dear Ruth, Dear Wife and Dear Brat! So glad your excited,
DeleteGrace
P.S You can find all three movies on ebay!
Oh, I love this idea! I think I could do a post...maybe a movie review of Roman Holiday? (It's one of my favorite movies EVER.) Looking forward to this, Cordy! :)
ReplyDeleteWell if it's a favorite, than how can you not?! (It is a super sweet movie!!) I'll add you to the list!!
DeleteI love Roman Holiday! Such a fun movie.....only...sniff, sniff, they didn't get married in the end!
DeleteWhoo hoo!!!!!! I love your month long blog parties!!!! This sounds like so much fun. I definitely am going to participate in some way!!! :D
ReplyDeleteFavorite actors: Jimmy Stewart, Errol Flynn, William Powell, Gene Kelly, Cary Grant.
Favorite actresses: Shirley Temple, Olivia de Havilland, Myrna Loy, Debbie Reynolds, Audrey Hepburn.
Awesome!!
DeleteOh good, I did cover a few of your favorites in the game for the month. :D
Say, can I contribute a list of my 10 favorite classic era film composers?
ReplyDeleteOH, HAMLETTE!! I was going to try and cover music in some way and I just didn't think I was going to get around to it. Now I don't have to. Yes, please do!! :D
DeleteOkeydokey, then! I'll get working on that :-)
DeleteI've only just found out about this blogathon, and I would love to participate. I'm obsessed with classic movies. I think I would like to write about "The Heiress" ( 1949) if that's okay?
ReplyDeleteAs for my favorite stars, Its hard to narrow down my top favorite stars, because I love so many.
Oh and my blog is: In The Good Old Days of Classic Hollywood.
ReplyDeleteHi Cordy. I'm not sure if my comment was received. Can I write about "The Heiress" ( 1949 ) for this event?
ReplyDeleteMy blog is: In The Good Old Days Of Classic Hollywood.
Sorry Crystal! (I publish my comments once or twice a week, I didn't mean to confuse you.)
DeletePlease write the post! :D I'll watch for your link on my kick-off post! :D Thanks for joining the party!
