The Force Awakens: Rushed and Dissapointing

Okayyy, to wrap up this Star Wars 'Week' (that has extended above and beyond the length of a week) I just have this one last post that I'm going to use to say the things that I haven't already said but still have on my mind.

Star Wars For Me
Right, so, I kind of 'grew up' on Star Wars. The Originals. (It has only been within the last few years that I actually even watched the prequels. Depending on the day, they don't even exist in my world.) They were the movies that you asked Dad to watch instead of Mom. My mom likes Star Wars, but to excess and for young children, not so much. :) Dad would watch anything with you. :) I know it was very naughty of me. But anyway, I loved the story found in the originals. I loved the princess and the scoundrel and I didn't even mind Luke. Yeah, he's something of a complainer and he's a little to impulsive to be called wise but I liked his belief in and his commitment to his dad. I liked the wise old Jedi, sarcastic comments, cool spaceship attacks, R2-D2, the creatures, and planets. (Oh, yes, and all the main characters survive...what an idea...) Why have I told you all of this? Truly, just to give you some background on my feelings for the galaxy far, far away. But now, I must move on to other points.

Rushed
Is basically, the word that sums up the movie to me. In many ways I think this film, while leaving you with to many questions, was also overstuffed with to many plots and side plots that didn't satisfy on any front. There are sooo many questions left in your mind and yet so much information that it just leaves you disappointed and in a way frustrated.

A Jedi doesn't have the power of a Father
As I struggled with Han and Leia's relationship I do want to draw attention to one point/scene. I did like the self-doubt that Han showed when Leia told him to bring Ben/Kylo home. (That I believe was a legitimate feeling for Han. Some of the others expressed...ehhh.) When Han stated that if Luke couldn't help their son, and Luke was a Jedi, then how could he, Han, do anything. I would have loved if this theme played a bigger role in the story. The idea of a Father's influence being stronger then a Jedi's would have been awesome to me. Missed opportunity in my book and plays to my thought on the film being rushed and overcrowded.

All The 'Nods' To The Originals
Those weren't nods to me it was just copying. I mean you have Star Wars! Literally a galaxy to work with. The potential is insane and all you could do was copy. :(

Fighting Stormtrooper
Okay, so that Stormtrooper that fought Finn, how was his 'fighting device' not cut in half by the lightsaber?!

About the Marathon
It was LOOONNGGG getting through the prequels. However, it was funny with all the comments that got thrown out from the crowd during the really bad scenes with Padme and Anakin. :) When we finally got to the originals it was AWESOME! To see those three in theatres was enough for me! The music was amazing and it was just fantastic. I have been to a few midnight premieres so I knew what to expect when The Force Awakens finally started and everyone cheered at everything and through the whole movie there were cheers and cheers. :) (My sister was taken a little off guard by the energy.) As for sleep, I never slept but my brother and sister did. I will tell you that I did struggle to stay awake through the first movie. That podrace...uuugghhh! And some others in the theatre slept as well so a few snores were heard. ;) Haha, there hadn't been trailers before each of the other films until The Force Awakens started and then we randomly had unwelcome trailers. And the moviegoers made sure you knew they were unwelcome. Yikes! Those were the only boos that were heard in those 24 hours. (I did notice that no one booed during the Civil War trailer though...but Angry Birds...who shows Angry Birds before STAR WARS?! Haha.) To give you a timeline, we were leaving the theatre as the midnight watchers were filing into the theatres. SOoo we did see it a few hours before everyone else. (Hehehe.) Before any of you ask, I did not dress up. However, I did wear an Obi-Won 2016 campaign shirt. Who's with me? :D

Humor
I missed the humor from the originals. And when I say humor I mean the laughter, like this picture. I wanted the positive energy. I don't feel like I laughed in the new Force Awakens and I don't think you were meant to. To me it is a very dark and almost heavy film. Not really like the originals at all in terms of acting and script. Like Episode 3, is very sinister and I feel like even though we gave 'nods' to the originals, the storyline is heavy and dark like the prequels...Cordy doesn't approve. But she's not the entire Star Wars fan base so oh well. ;)

In the end, I have a bad feeling about this! ;)

Admittedly, I overthink things most, if not all, of the time. But for better or worse you now have most of my thoughts regarding the new Star Wars film and my Star Wars Week has come to a close. Don't forget to play the Would You Rather Game!

Yours truly,
Cordy

P.S. And thank you for reading all of my ramblings! :D These past few weeks have been like Star Wars overload! Oh, and be sure to check out Natalie's post on The Force Awakens.

  3. Oh my! Thank you for that reminder about the Would You Rather? game! I totally forgot about it! Oops. :(

Ohh, I totally loved that part! About Han's role as a father being more influential than any jedi. I too would have loved to see that expanded. :)

I wish I could see the originals in theater! That must be SO amazing. It'd be almost like seeing them back when they came out! haha

Aw, you linked to my post! Thank you so much!

Now we just have to buckle down and wait for a long while...I hope eps.8 will be worth it. ;)

    1. But of course! Haha.

It would have been an amazing addition!

It was really nice! My readers may not know it because of the posts I've written, but I truly do LOVE Star Wars. So to see them in the theatre was really fantastic for me. :D I really loved whenever the Falcon went to lightspeed because the sound in the theatre was awesome! :)

I had to link to your post! You had so much fun with it!

Me too. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Same here! Besides my review and now your game (and a favorite couples post where I mentioned Han and Leia) I hardly ever talk about SW, even though I do love it. :)

      Thanks!
