The Jane Austen Tag

Naomi, over at Wonderland Creek, is hosting a Jane Austen week and for the occasion she has created this tag that is open to one and all. Don't worry about not being invited directly for no one cares about that sort of thing now a days. ;) But I haven't done a tag before and what is better than starting with a Jane Austen centered tag?

1. On a scale of 1 to 10, how much of a Jane Austen fan do you consider yourself?
Oh, boy...well, if I were to honest, I think I would only be considered a 7 or 8. I am a huge fan of what I consider the big three (Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, and Emma) but while I have read most of the others. I can't say that I like them. So I may not be considered as much of an Austen fan as I am a fan of my big three. :)

2. If "they" would make a new Jane Austen Movie, and you would be able to be cast in it, which Jane Austen character would you most like to play?
I would love the verbal sparing with Mr. Knightley but that would mean that I would have to be terribly cruel to Miss Bates and that would be far to gut-wrenching for me to pull off. And I hope that I'm not very much like Emma. So I would have to go with Lizzy. I like her quick, easy smile, how she takes pleasure in many things and she gets some good conversation points with Mr. Darcy. So Lizzy it is!

3. Is there any felicity in the world superior to a walk?
Depends on the day for me. Most of the time I don't take the time for a walk. However, when a rare occasion arises, I love a good walk!

4. Who's your favourite Jane Austen 'villain'? (As in 'villain' meaning 'the bad guy.')
Willoughby. I could...and might...do an entire post on this guy. Abominable scoundrel!
**Side note, if I was just going to answer a villain and it didn't have to be 'the bad guy' it would be Lucy Steele. The way she treats Elinor! Ugh! She's horrible!**

5. What/Who introduced you to Jane Austen?
Can't say that I remember ever being 'introduced' to her. The movie Pride and Prejudice was always in the house. I think I first watched it at my grandparent's on Thanksgiving. (It's a tradition to watch Pride and Prejudice on Thanksgiving there.) I read Pride and Prejudice before I was twelve and the other books and movies just came naturally.

6. Did you love/enjoy Jane Austen immediately, or has there been a time when you hated (um, prejudged) it?
Always been in love...with my big three.

7. Who, in your opinion, is the funniest Jane Austen character?
I have seen that Mr. Palmer seems to be the popular answer here so while still agreeing with you I want to suggest another candidate. Mr. John Knightley...not to be confused with his brother the Mr. Knightley.

8. Do you quote Jane Austen randomly in public?
Yes, it's been known to happen but I more mutter it under my breath. I'm fairly skilled in finding a suitable quote for every occasion.

9. Are children allowed to eat cake on weddings?
Of course!

10. What is your reaction when you hear that an acquaintance (e.g. A lady at Church) of yours loves Jane Austen?
Oh, dear, before getting to excited I'd want to know what their favorites are.

11. Who writes better letters, Mr Darcy or Captain Wentworth? (If you forgot what the letters were, shame on you, instead tell me if you prefer Strawberries to Chocolate or not.)
Ahem, Darcy. No contest.

12. Which Jane Austen heroine do you relate the least to?
It would have to be a toss-up between Fanny Price or Catherine Morland. (They wouldn't care for me either readers so it's of little matter. ;))

13. What's your favourite Jane Austen house (from one of the movies)?
I love Barton cottage from the 2008 Sense and Sensibility. It is right by the ocean! I would be perfectly content!

14. What's your favourite Jane Austen dress (from one of the movies)?
I don't think I have ever thought of this before. These dresses aren't really my style but going by color, and what I think would look best on me, I would have to go with this look:

This isn't the best picture of the dress...but it works...
And let's be honest, you're not really looking at the dress.

15. Can you turn off lit candles with your fingers?
I've never tried it but I'm sure, I'm sure I could.

So there you have it readers. Feel free to participate!

"Let us not say farewell, but as the French have it, au revoir." ~Wickham
(Now I'm going to go and wash my hands from typing a Wickham quote!)

Hope you have an enjoyable Austen filled week!

Cordy

P.S. I'm curious, how many of you noticed how many quotes/references I used/made from Jane Austen movies? Some might be to modified to recognize but as I said...I'm just curious. Leave your guesses in the comments.

    1. I love John Knightley as a character! "Here we are setting out voluntarily, to spend five dull hours in another man's home with nothing to say or hear that was not said or heard yesterday! The folly of it!" Mr. Palmer is great as well but still...I'd take a Knightley.

Are you going to participate in the tag?! I totally think you should...even if you don't complete it this week.

  3. Isn't the location of the '08 Barton Cottage simply scrumptious?! That whole movie just makes me HAPPY:)

"And let's be honest, you're not really looking at the dress." Haha! That's a perfect caption;)

Great answers! They were very entertaining to read:) (Oh, and I think I may have recognized about three to five references? I definitely got three, and there were a couple others that I wasn't sure, but thought might be references.)

    1. I agree! I am in love with the '08 Sense and Sensibility! (I HATE that first scene. It ruins everything! You're not supposed to know ANYTHING about that whole story until later in the book and to just 'throw that in'...argh! So I pretend that first scene doesn't exist.) The cottage by the sea...is loveliness itself!

I'm interested to hear which ones you recognized. In my head, while reading and typing my post I have about seven references. (That's counting the obvious quote from Wickham.) So I think that the five you saw were references! That's really good!

  4. AHH John Knightley!!! I love him. He's certainly broody at some times, but I still really like him. Also, he and Isabella. SO CUTE. :-)

"Let's be honest, you're not looking at the dress." LOVE IT. I mean, duhhhh. We're looking at Mr KNIGHTLEY. :-D

I love your P&P-on-Thanksgiving tradition! In our house it's a tradition to watch P&P95 on... GUESS WHAT.... on my birthday! Haha. :-) I love it. It's basically the best tradition ever. :-P

Thank you for completing the tag, Cordy!
