The Awesome Food Award

Miss March, over at Sunshiny Corner, (a blog that lives up to its name), has nominated me for the Awesome Food Award. I'm not sure what makes it a award but for those of you, like me, it just looks like a tag. (Would anyone like to explain to me why it's called an award?) But I was very flattered and without further delay, as I have been nominated for a few weeks now and don't want to seem as if I am neglecting my duties, here goes.

The Rules:

1. Thank the person who nominated you, as well as link back to their blog.
2. Answer the 10 questions provided.
3. Come up with 10 more questions that relate to food.
4. Nominate at least 5 people.
5. Let those people know they've been nominated.

Miss March's Questions:

1. Which do you prefer, salad or bread?
Gosh, what a question. I do love my salads but bread is--bread! So bread it MUST be.

2. As a child, were you a picky eater or did you like to try new things?
I don't really remember being picky. My mom may disagree. :) I will say that if I didn't like the smell of the food, I didn't eat it.

3. What was one meal you abhorred as a kid?
It's not really a 'meal' but I hope this counts. I still can't stand the smell/taste of peanut butter and the worst of all are peanut butter cookies! I hate peanut butter and once you put it in the oven the smell penetrates every corner of the house! Yuck-O!

4. Do you prefer cooking or baking?
I have very little experience cooking so baking I suppose.

5. Are you the sort of person who always has your meals planned out, or do you tend to toss things together at the last minute?  (Or if you don't have your own home yet, how do you imagine you would be?)
I don't have my own home so I shall answer accordingly. As we are allowed to use our imagination then of course I will have the best of both worlds. I shall have plans but I shall be able to 'toss things together' when needed. Sure I will. Hehehe.

I'm a bit like Fauna in the kitchen.

6. What is one of the worst (or most hilarious) food-making blunders you've ever made?
Ohhh, dear. I knew this story would come back to haunt me... I had been assigned to make cookies, simple chocolate chip cookies, for a church youth activity. I was maybe twelve or thirteen. (Should have been old enough to know what I was doing, right?) Anyway, I was already nervous around the mixer because I knew I was going to get my hand or hair caught in it...I was such a worry wart. :) But I hadn't secured the bowl before I put the butter, still somewhat hard from the refrigerator, in the bowl. I thought I had secured it but to my horror, my fear was realized when the bowl starting spinning not just the arm of the mixer. It jammed in, literally, less than a second. The bowl sat all crooked and it made horrid metal scratching noises when we, my older sister and I, tried to remove the bowl. Thankfully, my mom was able to fix things when she got home but as for my cookies...*sigh*...they came out flat enough to shame a pancake. I thought I would never bake again!

7.  Would you rather have steak or ice cream (or both together, like Pollyanna)?
Both, naturally.

8. What is your favorite kind of cake?
There is a family recipe for a chocolate cake. It's named after my great grandpa. It's called Pop's Chocolate Cake and it's fantastic! My brother has it down to a science, which is so nice. :)

9. Do you eat combinations of food that other people think strange? (For example: my little brother once dipped his cookie in ketchup.  Yeah, that was a bit over the top...yours definitely doesn't have to be that crazy.  ;))
French fries dipped in chocolate shakes. I really had to think about this one.

10. What is your favorite meal of the day?
Breakfast. Nothing better than a bowl of cereal and ice cold milk. But, it has to be ice cold from the fridge, you don't put ice in the milk *winkles nose in disgust* you'll make it watery. :P

Thank you Miss March!

Now for my questions:
1. Cake or Pie?
2. One food/goodie that your holiday can't be without?
3. Any food from fiction that you would love to try?
4. You have been unable to eat solid food for several months, what is the first thing that you have to eat? (Yes, I've had to do that, so I'm curious...)
5. Favorite kitchen gadget
6. If you could choose your birthday meal, what would it be?
7. What's a recipe that you have mastered, or wished you mastered? :) (You don't have to list the recipe, you just have to name it.)
8. What is the hottest thing you have ever eaten and did you like the heat? (I'm talking about spices, not really something hot from an oven.)
9. Make up your own question. :)
10. Hamburgers or hotdogs? (That's a copy question but, oh well.)

Okay, so I don't consider myself a real 'food person' and I had a hard time coming up with the questions. So if they are a stretch, or don't make sense...oops. :)

I'm not sure I want to 'officially' tag anybody. If you want to answer the questions I would love to read them but if not, Happy New Year, you don't have another post to write! :D

Yours truly,
Cordy

  1. I SO enjoyed reading your answers, Cordy! :) And aww, thanks for what you said about my blog. That's about the nicest compliment ever. ;)

You don't like peanut butter? Haha! Neither does my mom! She can't stand the texture of it. Oh, but Cordy. Peanut butter cookies are delicious!! Really they are!

"I shall have plans but I shall be able to 'toss things together' when needed. Sure I will." Haha! That made me smile. :) Things always sound so much easier in our imaginations, don't they? ;)

Oh, your mixing bowl story! Poor Cordy! That must have been unnerving! I like how your mom came to the rescue, though! My mom is always coming to my rescue!

Your questions make perfect sense, Cordy! I'm not going to answer them right now, though, because I haven't the time to really think about the answers, but...haha!...I like number 9! "Make up your own question"! What a cop-out! ;) I had a hard time coming up with ten questions, too!

Lovely post, Cordy! Happy New Year!

    1. Well it's true! I have loved your blog and getting to know you!

I'm with your mom! Not delicious! Nasty!

If I was as cool as my imagination makes me, I would be a force to be reckoned with! Hahaha!

Unnerving to be sure...but I survived! :D You're mom is a member of the child rescue group too?! How lovely. Hahaha.

      Totally a cop-out. No argument there. :)

      Thanks!

    2. Aww, thanks. :)

No, dear. Not nasty. Delicious. ;)

You make me smile, Cordy! "If I was as cool as my imagination makes me, I would be a force to be reckoned with!" Oh my! That is SO true!

Oh, definitely! I think every mom must be! Do you ever wonder what you'll do, though, when you're the mom yourself? Suddenly, you'll have to be the one who comes to the rescue! How is that going to work? Haha!

    3. No, my fellow charming crazy. Nasty, gross, detestable! Those are the words you were looking for. :D

That's nice to hear! I like to make people smile!

Naturally, my dear Miss March, this is where our, afore mentioned, imaginations come into the picture. We allow our imagination to boost our shaky confidence against such a daunting and important task... "Of course I can learn how to mother. I can do this. Many women have done this. And so shall I." Then when motherhood is actually upon us...well, we'll work on that when we reach that point won't we? Hahaha! Yes, in answer to your question. At times I do wonder what kind of mom I will make.

    4. Sorry to string this along so, but you've got me laughing again and I just have to say, "Poor dear. Poor dear charming crazy. You just don't know what you're missing." :P Haha!

Yeah, I guess that's all we can do. Work on motherhood when we get there. I'm sure we'll manage somehow--as others have done before us. ;)

    5. Oh, no. Dear Miss March, you misunderstand me. That's the trouble isn't it? You see, I do know what I'm missing and I don't mind. Truly, I don't. ;) Think of it as a gift to you. The less PB I eat, the more you can enjoy in my place. Hehehe.
