Most of you will recognize the musical aspect of this version of Cinderella because it is another version of the Roger's and Hammerstein's classic. Therefore, you will find the same songs that you associate with Cinderella if you have ever seen it in a play form. However, this is not filmed as a play! (Thank goodness. If I wanted to see a play I would go to the theatre, not watch a movie filmed in that style!) And because of that, it not being filmed as a play, I want to point out and introduce you to the characters and sets that make this version so delightfully whimsical!
Cinderella:
Her hair is so gorgeous and her smile is contagious!
His Royal Highness Christopher:
Isn't he handsome? Having reviewed three Cinderella movies here at the blog I'm beginning to notice that I haven't disliked any Prince that I have seen. His voice is nice and that smile...hello. ;)
The King and Queen:
They are a funny couple. All they ask is that their son marry, if it happens to be for love--so much the better but if not...too bad for him. Okay, it's not quite that harsh. ;) The king is kind and gentlemanly and the mother, well, she may have a side of manipulation but she believes it's in the best interest of her son of course!
The Fairy Godmother:
Played by Whitney Houston so that speaks to the music of course. And just look at that costume! The Fairy-Godmother is a great go-out-and-get-it kind of girl, and helps Cinderella to believe the same of herself.
Now, the sets! I have been trying to decided if these sets or those from the new 2015 Cinderella are my favorite. (Yes, there is a contest.) Oh, well, place one as first and the other as second place for my favorite sets. This version is so whimsical! It has swirls and rich color, there isn't a normally shaped door or room in the place! Everything is just incredibly...I don't know! Here, this may help...

| Love the woodwork as well! (Oh, and that's the step-mother by the way.) |
It's like Rapunzel dropped by and couldn't handle the blank walls so she painted them. All of them! It's fantastic!
Let me see, is there anything I have forgotten? Oh, yes. The step-mother and step-sisters are quite funny even in their selfishness. And they have some wonderful dating advice...see?
This Cinderella has lively characters, wonderfully whimsical and completely nonsensical sets and furniture if you look close, clever (okay, cheesy) dialogue, outrageous costumes, a delightfully blue and purple ball and the best swirling dance move of any Cinderella movie that I've seen. (This movie is the Cinderella that I would most want to be an extra in. Seriously, there is one swirling move that I wish I could do. But I need a capable partner...*shakes my head sadly because I don't have said partner*.)

| Work that blue eye shadow, girlfriend! Haha. Doesn't she look pretty?! That hair! |
So, are you ready to attend the ball yet?
Yours truly,
Cordy

Heehee. It's definitely what bosom friends are for. ;)
ReplyDeleteAbout the movie: I actually just saw this for the first time in November, on Youtube or something likewise free... in an exceedingly blurry state ;P, but I have a purchase request in for it at the library so I'm looking forward to seeing it again properly. :)
THE PRINCE!! He's quite splendid. (And yes, I've been thinking the same! It's incredible how every. single. Cinderella prince I've seen has been great. It's remarkable.)
The dance sequence at the ball is quite romantic and dreamy. And oh! I really liked their initial sequence together (Cinderella and the Prince) singing in the town square -- it was so grand and sweeping.
I also really liked Lionel (isn't that his name?).
And that gif with the king and queen is hilarious. His EXPRESSION!!! ;)
I'll keep my fingers crossed for your library request. One cannot experience this movie fully in a blurry state! No, no, no!
DeleteYes, the prince. No argument there ;)
As a kid I always wanted them to just 'TURN AROUND' in the square, so that they could see one another! But how they eventually meet works for me.
Yes, it's Lionel and he is hilarious!
I saw this version once or twice when I was little, but haven't since. It looks so funny and colorful though, that I may have to see it again!
ReplyDeleteThat dating advice is hysterical. hahaha ;)
Don't you live by those dating rules? ;) Hahaha.
DeleteIt would be a dream come true if I could attend a ball like that!!
ReplyDelete(By the way, sorry I deleted the "Oops" post before answering your question; the first picture was from "It's A Wonderful Life".)
Wouldn't it be nice?!
DeleteThanks for telling me. It was driving me crazy because I couldn't figure it out! :)
I remember when this first aired -- I was a senior in high school, and everyone was nutty about it, but I somehow never saw it until I got to college. One of my first roommates was a Brandy fan, so she watched this with some regularity. It's very fun!
ReplyDeleteYes, very fun! :D
