Okay, to start this little Star Wars week off, I just want to do a little bullet pointing that will give you an idea of the many thoughts in my head instead of making one long post that would go through everything. And I mean EVERYTHING.
Instead, these are some quick thoughts of mine so that you can get some idea of where I'm coming from and what to expect in the coming posts. And these won't really be in order. (I'm sorry if I spell things incorrectly...but it is Star Wars! I would probably fail a galaxy spelling test. :P) But grab a notebook and prepare to keep notes on for or against...because I am going to blow some holes here. Just prepare yourself. (Though I doubt they are going to be any new revelations if you have read any other thoughts on the film.)
- It felt like a Star Wars film, good start.
- Who is the guy with the map on Jakku and why would he have the map?
- Why if Luke wanted to disappear, would he leave a map?
- How does Jakku have Empire Walkers and things on their planet when the fleet was supposedly assembled around the Death Star and Endor in Return of the Jedi?
- Luke has a metal hand? No, he doesn't. He has a hand that is mechanical but they made it look human and he just wears a black glove...
- Corny/Cheesy lines, not truly clever funny like in the originals. And the dialogue was on point, there was no realistic pause between replies or things like that. Just bad humor and puns. (For example, the garbage compactor line.)
- Leia and Han only 'work' when neither of them are intimidated by the other one. That's why we all loved the pairing originally! But in this movie, Han only seemed like Han to me when he was in the action and Leia's character just seemed weak, one sided, bland. And with Han just hemming and hawing around Leia...no, no, no!
- Poe, a dark haired pilot...I wonder if he's Wedge's son? Nope, name doesn't match...that's a shame. If we must connect everyone to everyone why not start there? He makes for a good leader though.
- Please, don't make Rey related to anyone!! I don't want her to be Han and Leia's daughter and I don't want her to be related to Luke. Let's just start fresh here people.
- Snoke arrives and sits like Zeus in Disney's animated Hercules and who in the world is Snoke and where did he come from?
- Stormtroopers are no longer clones...right? Or are they half and half? (As in, some are clones and some are humans.)
- I knew Han was going to die so that wasn't really a shock on my system but it did make me sad.
- Not satisfied with Kylo Ren as a villain. He is so wishy-washy and such a brat! I don't think it's the actor's fault, I think it's more the character. He doesn't make sense to me. (Congrats, Cordy. Evil doesn't make sense to you.)
- There was better acting from the 'new guys' than from Leia and Han
- Come on, how exactly does one steal the Millennium Falcon from Han Solo? The odds are probably as bleak as successfully navigating an asteroid field. It just doesn't happen...lame!
- Really, Han and Leia aren't married. Really?! They skirted around this point so that is my guess. That a marriage didn't take place. So, while it wasn't said either way...I don't think they were married. :P
- The gun that Han gives Rey, is a sissy gun. It looks plastic and there seemingly isn't any weight to it. It's just a wimpy gun. Hahaha.

| I'm with you girlfriend. :D |
- Do Jedi run? Is the dark side stronger? (More on this subject coming up this week.)
- I like Rey as a character. She's different, for the Star Wars galaxy that is.
- Do I like Rey and Finn as a couple...no. I don't see the right chemistry there. Friendship, I'm okay with, but further than that...ehh, don't go there.
- You drain a sun to charge your weapon? SOoo, what happens when you run out of suns? Or do they strangely recharge somehow?
- Yes, I think the movie can be called a total repeat.
- I was distracted by Bill Weasley as a First Order leader...
- R2-D2, after explaining how and why he has been 'asleep' randomly wakes...huh?
- Kylo, why are you pounding your bleeding side? Are you trying to be impressive and ignore pain, or what? And about your immature anger management issues...?
- Still love the X-Wing fighters!
- LOVE BB-8!!!!! He is the best little guy!!!! To me, he's the star of the show. :D
- Interesting concept for making Rey as powerful, strength wise, during the lightsaber fight, because of the Force.
- I love the trailer!
- How does, the little Cantina owning lady have Luke/Anakin's lightsaber? Because that's the lightsaber that Vader cut off Luke's hand and dropped down a shaft in Cloud City...so how did she get it?
- CGI is SOOO much better than the prequels. We're back on track here...
Yours truly,
Cordy

First, I think Rey and Finn are cute as friends but nothing more.
ReplyDeleteSecond, my dad thinks he has it all figured it out and he says Rey is Luke's daughter. And I was like, "that's too predictable" and he was like, "anything can happen in star wars" and yeah... I don't think she's related to him. But I guess we'll have to see :)
Third, I kind of didn't like Kylo Ren either. But you're right. It's most likely the character and not the actor.
I AM SO SAD THAT HAN SOLO DIED. WHY MUST THEY DO THIS TO ME?
I had hoped there had been more of Han and Leia but I was sadly disappointed on that part.
Seriously that gun was wimpy!
There are so many things we could nit-pick about this movie but it was pretty good overall. I was glad they brought it back but I wish they put more care into it.
Great post! Can't wait for tomorrow's! :D
Totally fine with friend status.
DeleteNothing against your dad of course ;) but I really don't want Rey to be related to anyone. Although, I have read a few theories on it.
Haha, because Solo is old. He broke his leg on the Falcon while filming, poor guy. But it was very sad.
Ohhh, so I'm not the only one. I have more on Han and Leia coming up this week.
Good way to put it. More care would have been so nice! My brother challenged my sister and I to explain the movie in one word...his was 'rushed'. I agreed with him.
Phew, one down, the rest of the week to go!
Yep...
DeleteDon't mind. Yep...
Ugh! For reals?! That stinks! Poor guy... :'(
YESSS...!
'Rushed' is the perfect word! I applaud you and your brother :D
IT'S GONNA BE AMAZING!!! YOU'LL DO GREAT! :D
Well. We actually disagree on a few points. ;) But that's all right. ;)
ReplyDeleteI actually didn't have time to finish my review for today, but I do plan on finishing it soon, so I'll try to keep this relatively short. :) I'll just address some of your points.
-Haha! Yes, the guy on Jakku?? Who? What? Rather confused here.
-Everything you said about Luke. So true. I didn't think of that, but the map doesn't make sense. And his hand...that is weird. Maybe he needed a new one and they didn't have a similar "real" one available?
-The garbage compactor line was indeed very lame. It was sort of funny at first because "hey! The trash compactor!.." and then you think about it and realize how cheesy it is to use that. They were trying a little to hard to reference things from the originals.
-While I DO agree that Leia's character portrayal wasn't QUITE on point, and that they weren't quite as natural with each other as before, I'm willing to overlook it because of all that has happened. It's been YEARS and people do change. They've had a son and been heartbroken by him and separated because of it. I think Han was being careful around her because they probably have had so many harsh words between them...and maybe he's afraid of hurting her further, knowing how she must hurt over Kylo.
And yes. I am disappointed that they didn't expressly say that were married, but since they didn't say otherwise....I say they're married. I like to imagine things my own way, unless it's literally impossible to do so. :P
-I actually really wanted Rey to be Han and Leia's daughter.... I still do. haha
-YES. Snoke. What even. So weird and confusing and not very intimidating because it's just so weird!!
-I know. :( I knew about Han dying too....it was still sad, though. :'(
-I actually really like Kylo Ren....I feel kind of bad for him, although he is totally to blame for all his mistakes and his descent to the dark side. He is a brat, though. Definitely. haha
-I love Rey as a character too!!! She's strong and inventive without being stubborn and all "I can do anything a man can do." Ugh.
-YOU DON'T LIKE REY AND FINN??
Calming down. Calming down. But seriously. They are adorable!!! They're definitely one of my new favorite couples. :) :)
-Haha, what happens when you run out of suns?
-BB8 IS ADORABLE AND I ADORE HIM.
Well, I suppose this is all I have time for right now. :) I'm looking forward to more of your posts!! :D
No worries. I said that I was open to discussion. So here goes! :D
DeleteTotally agree with you. I think they were just trying to hard at times with the dialogue.
Many of your points I have answered and gone into further detail in my Character post. You will have to tell me what you think after you read that. (Such as Han and Leia, and Rey as a potential daughter.)
Snoke :P
(About Rey.) "She's strong and inventive without being stubborn and all "I can do anything a man can do."" Exactly!
Okay - so I actually don't agree with a lot of this. Sorry!
ReplyDeleteI didn't think that Rey and Finn's relationship/dialogue was corny. It was definitely different, which I like because who wants the same thing over and over? But it wasn't corny. It was actually a lot like real life, at least for me. I know people and am one myself, who act and talk like that. So yeah. And I think with some people, it takes a little longer to get "chemistry" that is visible on screen. Does that make sense? I know it's horribly garbled :P
What? You think Han and Leia aren't married? I thought that the idea that they were trying to convey was, they got married and had Ben Solo, but his turning evil put a lot of stress on their relationship and they drifted apart. Just my two sense :P
Annnnnnd I think Luke left a map, because although he was totally fed up and freaking out that his best pupil had just slaughtered all his students and turned evil and he wanted to go far away where no one would find him and he wouldn't mess up anymore, he knew that he was the only Jedi master left and so he left a map to let people find him if it was ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. Oh, and I also think that he's Rey's father. I just do :)
I've got more thoughts on this movie :) But I really have to run do my school work. Maybe I can comment on your new post this evening!
No worries! That's what's going to make this Star Wars week interesting!
DeleteI think I get the idea of what you're saying. And I'm willing to let the other movies change my mind but as it stands...I just don't like the chemistry we are currently working off of. I have said more about this in the character post.
I just think the marriage, as it wasn't mentioned, didn't take place. Which is just part of the cinema industry to me and is just irritating. :P But I mean, they did leave it open to interpretation.
Luke, Luke, Luke. I have, haha, sorry, another post that I'm writing about the Jedi and I think it will better explain why I have a small grudge against the 'run away because I mess-up' pattern that has been created.
Well, have an enjoyable school day then. :D
Ah, I see - well, of course we each have our own ideas about what is good and cool and what is not in a movie romantic relationship :D
DeleteWell, yes, I see that it's bothering that they didn't ABSOLUTELY verify that they were married, but how exactly would you mention it? Have Han Solo step off the ship, see Leia, and say, "Hello, wife"? Because that wouldn't be Han Solo at all, to me :P
Ah, well I look forward to read that post! It's interesting to see what other people think. By the way, do you think Luke is handsome? Old version and new version :P Just wondering.
Yes, I did have a good day, thanks! Today was my first day at my drawing class. It was cool :)
Haha, you hit the nail right on they head. Yes, of course that's what I was looking for: "Hello, wife". Hahaha! That would have been horrible! :P
DeleteI don't think I ever saw Luke as the handsome one. I think his face had recovered from surgery by Jedi but in New Hope and Empire I don't think he was really attractive. Why, do you think that he was/is attractive? Haha. He's to old for me to see as handsome now. His hair looks like it came from the 70s.
You can draw?! Lucky!
YES. Horrid :P
DeleteNo, I don't think he's very handsome at all. A nice guy of course, but not HANDSOME. I was more asking because a lot of people I know think that he's SO VERY VERY handsome, and I just can't see it, so I was wondering what you thought :)
Yes, I can draw - I've wanted to be an artist since I was a wee lass :D
Yeah, not handsome to me. Never was. Certainly never 'very very handsome'. :)
DeleteEver since you were a wee lass? That's cute! I'm glad you're able to take classes then!
Yeah :P
DeleteThanks!! Yes, ever since then :) I hope to major in graphic design when I get to college, and then maybe have my own buisness. Or, what I'd REALLY like to do, is be a wedding photographer! That would be COOL!!!
HOW CAN YOU NOT LIKE REY AND FINN AS A COUPLE. HOW.
ReplyDeleteAhem. I'm (sort of) teasing ;P I actually understand why their relationship could be not-romance-material, but I personally SHIP IT LIKE FEDEX. They make me really, really happy :D Unfortunately, however, I just have this nagging feeling that they WON'T make it a romance, but that they'll try to pair Rey up with Kylo Ren (who annoys the ever-livin' daylights out of me) or Poe (I could actually sympathize with that ship, though I'm pretty sure I'll always like Rey and Finn the best).
Haha, I feel you! "Please, don't make Rey related to anyone!"
I really liked this movie, on the whole, I'm just HOPING it doesn't spiral into a straight repeat of the original and prequel SW stories (i.e. Kylo Ren becoming Anakin; Rey and Finn being somehow related--which kind of biologically doesn't seem possible). Sigh.
Anyway, thanks for all the SW posts! :D
You can ship them enough for the both of us. :D
DeleteBut, oh no! Don't put Poe with Rey! Age wise I don't think that would work for me!
Amen. I am very worried about repeating storylines!
