Fairytale Happiness

I think there is little piece of all of us that would like to be involved in a fairytale. Wouldn't you agree? Well, I have a post all about fairytales here waiting for you. :)

What is it about fairytales that makes them so worth our time? I should even clarify that questions. What is it about fairytales that draw us to them? There is a hopefulness happiness that comes with the very word fairytale and it is that happiness that I would like to try and help you find and gain access to. No matter what part speaks to you, the whimsical, the magical or the happy endings, there is at least one aspect to a fairytales that speaks to all of us. For me, it is the happiness that is found in them and I have made up a list of some of the things that I have found that gain me that almost giddy happiness.

It is the new year, set a goal to be happy!

Cordy’s Steps to a Fairytale Type Happiness:
  1. Laugh at myself, as in, yourself, don’t take yourself so seriously, cut yourself some slack
  2. Giggle about something everyday
  3. Read your Scriptures daily, pray even more
  4. Live in a clean environment, clean it yourself if you must
  5. Love your family time, have more of it
  6. Walk in someone else’s shoes, including your own
  7. Learn about it, don’t fear it

Now let’s break this all down.

1. Laugh at myself, as in yourself, don’t take yourself so seriously, cut yourself some slack
I'm still not perfect at step one. In fact about the only step I can claim perfection in is giggling. That much I can do perfectly! I have always taken myself WAY to seriously and it was only within the last few years that I saw how harmful it was to me, as well as those around me. I could laugh at others easy enough but I could never do the same for myself. I have come a little ways though, I have been able to talk about the time I shaved my eyebrow off without feeling like I was a complete idiot. (Because now, I can see that I was, in away, an idiot.) And yes I actually did that when I was about 8-9. I wouldn’t recommend it, though it makes for a great story now. It can only be surpassed by the time I cut my bangs off when I was 12. That was one hot summer for the hats that I wore to try and conceal my error. In my defense the hairdresser made it look so easy! ;)

2. Giggle about something everyday
Now how to giggle. I HAVE to clarify here because I am not talking your average girly-girl giggle. I am talking just a cute giggle. Perhaps I should have said a belly laugh but that puts me more in mind of a Charles Dickens' character after a hearty meal. Basically, step one and two, go hand in hand. If you can bring more true humor in your life, so many  of your problems will smooth themselves out. (Laughing, has a very special meaning to me. Maybe I'll get up the courage to tell you about it sometime.)

3. Read your Scriptures daily, pray even more
Read your scriptures. Whatever they are. There is plenty of courage and happiness to be found in their pages. If you really just want some easy nuggets I would suggest looking in Psalms and Proverbs. And pray even more than you read. Talk to your Father in heaven. Ask for guidance in finding your happiness and keeping it always with you.

4. Live in a clean environment, clean it yourself if you must
Oh dear, yet another step that I struggle with. I know that some people find cleaning to be relaxing…yeah, I wonder if you know how blessed you are! :D I am not a cleaner of anything really. My room will get to a point where I might have to take a few days to get it back in order. However, I got this! I know what I need to do to clean it or any other part of my house. I will put on some music and sing or if I can’t find music I will hum to myself. I won’t sing out loud if I can hear myself! Yes, Aurora might be my favorite princess but I do not ‘Wonder’ out loud as she does.

5. Love your family time, have more of it
One of my favorite things to do with my family is play Wii. We particularly like playing Wii Play U and Mario Party. We will do some Goomba bowling, and bop each other on the head for some of the mini games. It doesn’t matter what we are playing it just seems the best way for us to enjoy our competitiveness without needing ice packs! I hope you realize that I am being--slightly, sarcastic. We also watch family videos together and chat as a general group about anything and everything. As I mentioned we are competitive so we do some sports as well.

6. Walk in someone else’s shoes, including your own
Step six. I feel as if I won’t have any secret flaws left by the time this post is over. I am not going to focus so much on the first part because we all know how difficult it can be for you to see something from someone’s point of view. What has been more of a struggle for me is forgiving myself and trying to slack off on myself. I have memories that I torture myself with and to what purpose? I will reason them out, using what logic skills I have now, and get entirely irritated at myself for how I had reacted at the time without making allowances for where I was emotionally or mentally at that time. What peace and joy have come when I have left off on scolding myself! Hopefully, I am smarter now than I was then so of course some of my actions are going to seem stupid to me now. Oh, well! As soon as we can master this step for ourselves we can more easily apply it to the other situation involving others.

7. Learn about it, don’t fear it
Any steps you can take towards eliminating fear in your life will be well worth it and will allow you to experience more happiness. Learning about things that you fear is one of the more logical ways to eliminate it. Try not to fear something until you understand it. There are exceptions to this rule of course. Sometimes the more you learn about something the more you fear it, and rightly so. Try to apply this step in small ways first. For example: I have few ‘small’ fears like some insects. I can deal with spiders, snakes and worms but don't show me a beetle or a centipede! *serious shudders* Solution(!) I have found an animal show that I watch. As I am able to replace the fear I have with information, the fear turns into a wonder factor. Insects can be pretty cool. (I’m not saying I want to run a museum for them but some of them are truly, quite cool. :D)

Well, there you have my advice for one aspect of your fairytale. However, as to the rest...I'm not a member of the Castle Seeking Reality Team, I'm not sure where you can qualify for a fairy-godmother and knights on white chargers are hard to come by these days. But, there're all out there and I wish you luck in living your fairytale. :D

For those who may be wondering, after this long post on fairytales, my favorite fairytale is "Sleeping Beauty". Has been since I was very young. (As opposed to the relatively young that I am now.) It is rich in symbolism and of course there is a handsome prince, three good fairies and a vanquished dragon! The whole package basically. What is yours?
I would like to end with the trailer for the newest Cinderella. I mean, you deserve some reward for reading all of my babbling! :D That and I love trailers.

Oh, this movie...is...perfect. :D

Yours truly,
Cordy

  1. Bravo Cordy! This is a great way to happiness and I believe it will do wonders for lots of people out there! P.S. I struggle with cleaning as well :D

  2. Wonderful advice, Cordy! I have a hard time laughing at myself, too, especially in regards to my writing. I've told myself on different occasions when I've made a silly mistake, "Just laugh at yourself. It really is funny." But I never can seem to do it. Embarrassment always gets the upperhand. :)

I hope you do get up the courage sometime to tell us about the special meaning that laughter holds for you, because, really! You can't just drop hints like that, and then NOT tell us! :D That isn't nice at all! ;)

Oh! It sounds like you and your family have a lot of fun together! My family likes chatting about anything and everything, too! We love having long, in-depth discussions on all sorts of topics. Also watching movies together is great fun!

You just can't get out of the Cinderella mood yet, can you? ;)

By the way, I love your new blog look! The colors are lovely! And your profile picture, too! That's June Allyson, isn't it?

    1. I always love your comments, Miss March!

I agree with you 100%! Writing, is the one spot where I am still struggling to laugh at myself. Particularly, what early writing I have shared with my family who, sometimes, bring up my silliness. They don't mean any harm but sometimes, I just can't stand the embarrassment! I feel your pain!! ;)

Thanks. I didn't mean for it to tease you. :/ More of a motivation for me sometime.

It's wonderful that you have a great relationship with your family too. Oh, yes. My family does the movie thing too.

Haha, actually, I've had this post lying in my drafts for awhile just waiting for final touches and things like that. Coming out of Cinderella week and as it's 2016 and time for goal setting, I figured the timing was perfect! Oh, but why didn't you fill out the Cinderella tag? or the Would You Rather Game? I want to know what time period you would like a Cinderella to be filmed in and all that! :)

Thank you! It's so nice of you to say so. :D It is indeed! She is one of my favorites! And her smile was so pretty!

    2. Aww, thank you. That is so encouraging to hear. Sometimes I worry that I talk too much. :/

Oh, dear yes. Writing can be so embarrassing sometimes. I have a very hard time taking criticism...even if it's given in a very kind and considerate way. That's why I don't usually show my writing to anyone until I'm fully satisfied with it myself...and even then I hesitate. :) Ah well. I guess that's something I'm just going to have to get over. ;)

Oh, no! You didn't really tease me. That was just my way of saying, "Go for it! I'm interested!" I wasn't really put out with you for not telling us. Seriously, I would like to hear your story sometime, but only when you feel inclined to share it with us. :)

Why didn't I fill out the Cinderella tag? Well, I started to but I'm so slow when it comes to writing posts, that I sort of ran out of time. And as for the Would You Rather Game, I really wanted to do that, too, but I had the same problem with it as with the tag. Lack of time. :/ I'm afraid that's the story of my blogging life. I'll probably always be one step behind where I want to be.

Oh, yes! I like June Allyson, too. And you're right, she does have a very pretty smile.

Thanks, Cordy! Your comment made me smile. :)

    3. Oh, no! I love your long comments! They allow for lovely conversations don't you think?! Henceforth, you should have no fear of leaving 'long comments' at my blog! :D

I know what you mean. I just hate feeling embarrassed. (I would probably prefer any feeling but that.) I think writing is where I have had to apply step 6 the most. I have an easier time accepting criticism when I know I have submitted good work. When I haven't (ahem, cue my old writings) it's harder to swallow. :P

Haha. You don't have to worry. I'm grateful for your encouragement! I'll see what I can do, but I can't make any promises. ;)

No worries. Time is hardly a friend to anyone these days. :/ Well, if you don't have time for blogging, I hope that means that better things are keeping your attention! :D

Well, you know, I do what I can. Hehehe.

  3. This is very good advice, Cordy! I especially like the first one. I need to laugh more at myself, I do :) I laugh a lot in GENERAL, but it's hard to laugh when I'm embarrassed :P

I like it better when things are clean, too :) And praying every day definitely helps! I loved this post!

    1. I like to laugh in general as well. It has helped me be happier in so many situations. But it is extremely hard to laugh when you are embarrassed. I wholeheartedly agree with you!!

Good, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I wondered if it was to long or perhaps included to many personal ramblings on. :)

  4. First off, all of those Disney princess collages are SO pretty! Did you make them yourself?

Point #2 This is so true! Laughing at something-a really joyful laughter is so fun and makes the day seem so much brighter. :)
Ha. I too can't really use the term "belly laugh". Some words or phrases just rub you weirdly sometimes, don't they??
And oh! I do hope that sometime you will share with us why laughter is so special to you. :) I know I'd love to hear it.

#3 Amen to this whole point, of course. :)

#5 Ahh yes!! Family time is the best. :) We too watch movies quite frequently as a family. I love days where we can all go somewhere together and hang out and just have fun, even if it's just shopping or such.

#6 Ohh, Cordy, I feel for you! I too tend to "beat myself up" over past mistakes (especially in situations of "oh, why did I say that, that was so awkward!", "They must think I'm really dumb," "I should have said something during that conversation!") but I do feel that the Lord has helped me grow in this area and to relax. I've learned (and am still learning) that EVERYONE makes mistakes and has awkward moments-and I need to relax and not care what people think so much. :)
So, yes. Reasoning it out...reliving memories..scolding myself for what I said or did. I've been there.
Thanks for such a wonderful post! I think my favorite fairy tale is Beauty and the Beast. :)

    1. Yes, I did! They were so much fun to make! As I was making them, mostly while adding the last pictures, I thought: "No wonder girls have unrealistic expectations regarding a first kiss." Haha!

#2, Exactly. Some phrases just don't work for me.

      #3, Pun intended? ;)

#6, Yes, yes, to every phrase that you have said to yourself. I have used them all on myself. :/ But as you said, the Lord has been helping me with this struggle. And for that I am grateful, for I could not do it on my own.

My older sister has always liked Beauty and the Beast. It is my second favorite. I really like Belle and I really love the fantastic music! :D

    2. Haha! :D

      #3 Heehee, yes. :)

#6 I'm so glad He has been helping you, as well! And yes. I definitely could not do it either without His help. :)

Yay that it's your second favorite! I love pretty much everything about it. :)
