Cinderella Party Tag | Cinderella Week

For the Cinderella week, Heidi, created this tag! You can read her answers here.

1. In the vast array of fairytale heroines, what particular character qualities most define Cinderella?
To me, Cinderella has a willingness to believe in her hopes and dreams. Some people learn to believe or come to terms with the belief in something while I think Cinderella wants to believe in the good things of the world around her. And that belief is what often propels her towards that end. Does that make sense?
And her kindness of course. I love the quote on my sidebar from the new movie: "Have courage and be kind for where there is kindness there is goodness, and where there is goodness there is magic!" I believe it!

2. What are some of the deeper, big picture differences you see between retellings where both stepsisters are nasty and others where one is nasty and one is kind? How do you think the two takes differently develop/illuminate/affect Cinderella’s character and also the overarching story itself?
Umm, wow, deep question but rather specific. I'll just have to think this out. I liked in the new Cinderella where the step-sisters, while potentially beautiful, were still anything but beautiful because of their scheming and their selfishness. So there is that observation about the pair of them being horrid and the lessons in beautiful character and not just lovely looks. But I also like Ever After where one of the step-sisters is kind. She doesn't start standing up for Cinderella until closer to the end of the film. But I still like believing that Cinderella had gained a kind of ally. Hard question for me. Sorry, if I still didn't answer the question correctly.

3. Are you an animal lover? Would you eagerly count mice, lizards, cows, and geese as friends? Dogs and cats?
I would have to give a selective yes on this one. I have seen at least three mice in my lifetime, all within my home. I can't say that I welcomed them with open arms. :( But lizards are cool and I don't mind geese...although, I was bit by one once. I LOVE dogs, but I can't stand cats! Now, you see why I had to be selective? Haha.

4. After asking question #3, I realized how remarkably many of the adaptations I’ve seen have Cinderella either horseback riding or involved with horses. Have you ever ridden? If so, have you ever ridden sidesaddle or bareback?
I wouldn't say that whatever pony rides I've been on as a child would qualify for a horseback ride. As much as I would love to have been riding, sadly, I have never ridden a horse 'officially'. :'( I have often joked about finding a cute cowboy to teach me sometime. ;) But then again if I go riding on my own, I might just meet a handsome Kit to rescue me! Heehee.

5. Your favorite Cinderella dress/s?
I'll just choose two, but you should know that there are many others! :)

Cinderella 2015

That veil, and the flowered dress?! Love, love, love!

Slipper and the Rose

I like the color of the blue but not quite the style of it.
What I really liked, and was trying to show you, was the pink one on the swing.

6. Do you ever think of Cinderella while doing your household chores? :)
Funny you should ask. I was thinking about this last week. I usually think of Cinderella when I have to clean/scrub a bathtub. Because it's one of the few times that I am basically on hands and knees cleaning. Thank heavens we have mops now so that we don't have to use buckets and rags for cleaning the floors.

7. What major character traits do you think are essential in a faithful prince?
As opposed to an unfaithful one? Haha. Sorry, that seems like a strangely worded question. (Unless we were referring to Into the Woods, where there is an unfaithful prince.) I really, really, liked the portrayal of the prince in the most recent Cinderella. Prince Kit is not only interested in satisfying his heart. Though his fights for the chance to marry for love he is not so against his father's wishes and the betterment of the kingdom as to make him seem neglectful of one responsibility in favor of another. He respects his father's wishes, understands the responsibility of ruling a kingdom, and yet knows that he would much rather marry for love. It was very nicely done and I like that kind of responsibility rather than "forsake everything else because I love her". It would also be most convenient if he could make me laugh!

8. Your top THREE favorite fairy tales (as in the original folk tales, not adaptations).
A cop-out answer for you I'm afraid. While I have read a few original fairy tales I can't say that I was impressed with any of them. Certainly not enough to call any of them a favorite by any means. Maybe I have read the wrong ones but *small shrug* they're not my thing.

9. Your top FIVE current favorite fairy tale/legend type films (BESIDES any Cinderella adaptations).
I basically only love the first two listed.
(All Disney versions you must understand!)
~Sleeping Beauty
~Beauty and the Beast
~Pocahontas (But, maybe it's for the music. I know I don't like it for it's 'accuracy'. ;))
~The Swan Princess (Not done by Disney.)
~Robin Hood

10. If you could play Cinderella and the story could be set in any region of the world and any time period, what would you pick? And what would your dream ‘ball gown’ for it be like?
I think it would be set in America during the 1950s. I love just about everything about that time period. Although, do I have to be Cinderella? But I have picked out a dress anyway. :)

I like the detail work on the dress. I think it would go nicely with a Cinderella with light brown hair. Hair that I don't have. :D But I really like the lace look. Simple and elegant.

11. And (purely for fun :))… what color/s do you immediately associate with Cinderella?
Pink and blue. Hence, my blog look.

Thanks for the wonderful tag, Heidi!

  2. I'm so glad you were able to fill it out, Cordy!! :)

And I LOVE your 1st pic. (In fact, all your pics are perfect. ;))

#3: Hee. I actually forgot how much I like lizards till my sister reminded me after I'd done my answers!

    #5: Love ALL those dresses!!

#7: Oh! Explanation. I added the "faithful" part as I really wanted people digging "deeper." So not just saying, "charming and dashing and handsome" super fast, if that makes sense. ;)

And I like the collage of Kit and his father... (I know I already said it, but it bears repeating.)

    #'s 10 & 11: I love lace dresses! And pink and blue!! ;)

Ohhh, now I do understand. I was a little confused, haha. :) I liked how some of these questions required a little more thought.

  3. I loved reading your answers!! Especially your answer about the prince. :)
And ooh, what a pretty dress! A 1950's Cinderella would be SO fun and classy and--just wonderful. :)

Haha, I had a little trouble with the step-sister question too, so you're not alone. ;)
