I missed last month's link-up, but new month, new subject!
Heidi's topic: A picnic scene in literature or film
You can view her selection and learn more about her link-up here.
Okay, this isn't a straight picnic but can't a barn raising work? There is food, picnic tables, the outdoors, and gingham. *smiles convincingly*
Well, I'm going with it. I'm choosing the barn raising from Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.
I wish I could have been one of these girls. The gowns are lovely and colorful and the dancing itself looks like it would have been so much fun! To be twirled around for the sake of a dance off? Okay. I'm game. ;)
As for the gentleman, I'd take a guy in a collared shirt over a drab suit any day! There are 'nice suits' and then there are 'eh, suits'. I'm sorry towns men, but the brothers look dapper next to your funeral styled clothes.
Just out of curiosity, which brother is the your 'type' and which of the dresses would you wear? :D
Thanks, Heidi!
Yours truly,
Cordy

Seven Bride for Seven Brothers!! Yay! Excellent choice, Cordy! (And yes, I'd say this scene definitely works for the picnic subject. :))
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the dresses and the guys colorful shirts! And yes, the towns men's suits are so drab. Poor fellows. They didn't stand a chance for attracting the attention of the girls' once the "walking rainbow" showed up. ;)
Hmmm...I'm not sure which guy is actually my 'type,' but I've always liked the three youngest boys best. (Ephraim doesn't come into it nearly enough, in my opinion.) What dress would I wear? Oh, boy. Maybe Eliza's. I very much like the pink gingham look. But then I tend to wear a lot of pink, so actually it would be really cool to have the green dress or the yellow dress or the...I think I'd better take them all! ;D
Great post, Cordy!

Haha, "walking rainbow". That's so true.
DeleteHehehe, I'm going barn-raising-dress-shopping with you!! We'll take the lot please. ;D
Thanks, Miss March.

Fun choice! I'd love to be in a dance scene like that, although I have no idea which dress I'd prefer. I haven't seen the movie in a long while. :/
ReplyDeleteTotally agree. Country guys in pants and a button down shirt are way better than town men in suits. ;)
Thanks. Maybe it's time for a rewatch...hmm. :)
DeleteYes, I think so. ;) Love your new profile picture!!
DeleteThanks. :) I love yours too. Speaking of a needed rewatch. It's been ages since I watched Amazing Grace.
DeleteGoooooood choice, Cordy!! I would wear the blue dress (not sure which girl wears it) and Gideon is my favorite brother.
ReplyDeleteYou must like blue in general because you chose the blue dress and the brother in the blue shirt.
DeleteOh and I think she's Ruth...maybe.
DeleteOhhhh, yessss, I loved this scene! I would seriously love to be one of these girls. I love long dresses that twirl and I most certainly, as you said, would love "To be twirled around for the sake of a dance off". Definitely. I like most of the brothers, but my favourite was the one somewhere in the middle with the slightly darker hair...Frank? I think it was Frank. He seems to be more quiet? I don't know. Which dress? Any of them! I love them all.
ReplyDeleteGreat selection. :)
Yes, Frank has dark hair. He's one of the main dancers in the scene.
DeleteThanks, Rae!
Great choice Cordy!! I must admit I haven't seen this movie, I have seen it as a play. But, I really like Jane Powell, so I really want to see this!!!
ReplyDeleteIf you like Jane Powell and the play I wouldn't hesitate in watching the movie! :D
