1. How many books by J.R.R. Tolkien have you read?
Only the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Though I have high hopes of one day making it through the Silmarillion! (Thus far, I've attempted it twice.)
2. Have you seen any movies based on them?
Yup. I've seen all three Hobbit movies and the Lord of the Rings films.

3. Are there any scenes/moments that make you cry?
Yes, proceed with caution all non-Tolkien-readers because these are spoiler moments. In fact, I'll do this in white.

I have cried during Thorin's death when the Eagles come. I got slightly teary with Bard and his son while they tried to kill Smaug. Yes, very dramatic, but I still really liked it. (Which seems strange to me.) I've also cried during Théoden's death and I've become strangely emotional when I'm reading the relationship between Faramir and his father. It's so hard for me to grasp a parent treating a child that way! Particularly as his behavior compares to Théoden's when he loses his son.

4. Are there any scenes/moments that make you laugh?
YES! Anything with Merry and Pippin! I love the firework moment! And Martin Freeman can make me laugh with Bilbo's quirky mannerisms. (And when he first meets Thranduil!! Love!)

5. Have you ever chosen a Middle Earth name for yourself? If so, what is it?
Nooope. I don't think so. Hmm, I wouldn't even know where to begin. Heads to Pinterest...according to a chart found on Pinterest, my elfish name (using my blog name) would be, Celeblas. :P Yikes!
6. Who would you want to party with/marry/fight to the death? (pick three characters)
Wow, really? Oookay. I'll say right now, I don't particularly want to kill anybody--that's *gagging* way gross. But verbal battles to the death: DENETHOR! I have no pity for that guy at all. Don't like him and would have no problem arguing with him. Moving on. Party with, uh, Merry and Pippin. Who else? Marry? I would have to say Faramir. I like his steady character and insightful conversations. (But I'm happy to step aside for Eowyn because they are such a power couple!!)
7. When was the last time you visited Middle Earth, via books or movies?
April or Mayish. I had a LOTR marathon with my grandpa.

8. Do you consider Gollum to be a villain? Why or why not?
No. I pity him more than anything else. To be honest, I think several years with the ring left him in worse shape then the main villain Sauron. Sauron was ready and willing to feed off the power of the ring. Gollum, was unexpectedly overtaken by it. He was too weak too handle its power. I'm not saying I'd like to hangout with the guy, but he's not really a "villain" to me.
9. How would you sum up what Tolkien's stories mean to you in one word?
Inspiring
10. List up to ten of your favorite lines/quotes from the books or movies.
Ooh, really? Alright, I'll see what I can find.

Bravo! I have yet to do the tag... 0_0
ReplyDeleteYou always pick the best quotes, Cordy ;)
Hey Fawnabelle :) I haven't seen you in awhile.
DeleteThanks. Which of the quotes did you like best?
Yep! I've been kind of busy...
DeleteFaramir's about not loving the sword for its brightness and Frodo's about saving the Shire for Sam... they're so beautiful :')
Oh, I wasn't blaming you. I was more welcoming you back. *thumbs up*
DeleteHaha, I know XD Thank you!
DeleteLOVE this, Cordy! And I'm so going to be doing this tag - I can't miss out on anything Tolkien! :D

Thanks, Savannah. And I agree, one must not pass up these kinds of opportunities! ;)
DeleteDown with Denethor! What a horrible father he was. And Merry and Pippen are awesome! :)
ReplyDeleteAgreed. He wins the WORST father of the year award. :P Always love the hobbits. :D
DeleteOh, definitely read the Silmarillion if you enjoyed the appendices. Lots of nerdy history. It is MUCH darker and disturbing though.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads up, Livia.
DeleteThis was a fun post! I especially liked question number 6 and your answers to that. "Party with, uh, Merry and Pippin. Who else?" *grin* You said it.
ReplyDeleteOh wow! So many good quotes. And that quote of Frodo's is making me want to cry! Why does this story have to be so heartbreaking? Dear Frodo. *sob*
Haha, I really couldn't think of who else you would party with. I don't know how that was even a question.
DeleteNo, no, we've been over this, Miss March. While the ending might be seen as sad, it did end correctly. ;)
Loved reading your answers! I have always loved the "all that is gold" quote. I had a friend who used to quote the whole thing back before I had ever read any of the LotR books, and I was always fascinated by it.
ReplyDeleteIt's REALLY good, isn't it? Thanks, DKoren.
DeleteLoved your answers! :) And oh yes, the firework scene with Merry and Pippin is perfection!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Natalie!
DeleteFINALLY I'm getting a chance to check out everyone's answers to this tag. Love yours! You clearly have an awesome grandpa :-)
ReplyDeleteI love how many different quotations people love. Reading them all is one of my favorite parts of hosting this blog party every year. I actually have a mug that says, "Forth, now, and fear no darkness!" on it, to hearten me on particularly difficult mornings.
Thanks for joining the party!
An amazing grandpa! We always have THE BEST movie days!
DeleteAww, I love your mug--and I want one now. :) That's the perfect quote to help at the start of a day! And I'm with you, I liked all the quotes as well.
Thank you for hosting! Your games were awesome!! :D
